Ditka, it's apparently not okay when a democrat does it. Take that shit and stuff it.

Dammit, The Tooth!

I had to waste several minutes explaining to Ms. Buster why that Keurignacht was funny. I guess mostly historians and coffee fanatics will get it.

Al Franken pitches a rape-culture-promoting joke. When called on it down the line, he issues an apparently sincere apology when it’s to his political advantage to do so.
Al Franken poses a rape-culture-promoting picture using the body of a sleeping woman he’s got a beef with. When called on it down the line, he issues an apparently sincere apology when it’s to his political advantage to do so.

In the first case, he’s (much later) admitted that the apology was BS all along, and gloats about telling a “white lie” to get elected when he really doesn’t see anything wrong with what he did. He claims that he was just doing his job as a comedian and that he thinks apologizing for the incident is silly, and has no remorse. So now in the second case, why wouldn’t he consider the apology another “white lie” for political advantage? His job was comedian at the time it happened, so the defense of “it was my job then” still applies, after all.

Yep. If something significant doesn’t happen to him and the Democrats continue with the ‘It’s OK if our guys do it’ stance, I fully expect that the Republicans will be beating back blue candidates with that drum for decades anytime one of their candidates is accused of groping/molesting/raping/etc. IMO this is really a make or break moment for the Democrats, and throwing Franken under the bus now is probably a huge win for them politically.

If you do not see a difference between fiction and reality and a real apology that was accepted and actual denials to what many woman are saying against Moore, then it is no surprise that Republicans can fool many.

I can see the necessity of it and agree that it was wrong of Franken to do what he did, but the other half of that equation infuriates me. I want to kick teeth in when the alt-right and neo-nazis and Republicans start gloating when their own people do much worse to many more. Fuck 'em. Their side gets to foster plague in their crops but the Democrats have to burn their fields the second someone sees a cricket.

I don’t often desire a like button but that post is funny.

And it’s also not okay when this other Democrat is being a douche.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice comes to the defense of “all heterosexual males.” Why, he himself has even had sex with “fifty very attractive females”. Female what, I might not have known, except he identifies a couple of them.

I’m a Democrat, and I repeat, this guy is a douche.

Ordinarily, might be moved to simply agree. However, the 10,000 Niven fan bonus points your username earns puts it to enthusiastic endorsement. Woot! Woot!

And if he does resign under Democratic pressure, the Republicans will be beating the “Democrats are all puritanical SJWs who want to lock up everyone who has ever made a pass at anyone or told a sexist joke” drum for decades. There might be some good reasons for him to resign, but “Republicans are going to make political hay out of it if he stays in Congress” isn’t one of them. Republicans are going to make political hay out of whatever Democrats do.

She’s just lucky, I guess.

This.

This is why I didn’t want to read the crap from the right wing when the Al Franken story came it. They’ll find one or two examples of a progressive behaving badly and use it to justify their own hypocrisy.

Yeah it doesn’t matter whether Franken resigns or not – they’ll cling to whatever they can.

Once again, Democrats don’t approve of Franken’s behavior but there may or may not be differences of degree, and in any case, Franken isn’t a racist, bigoted, misogynistic asshole. The fact that Roy Moore is a sexual predator is not the only reason that people don’t like Roy Moore. The fact that time and time again Republicans are exposed as perverted hypocrites isn’t the only reason people don’t like Republicans. It’s because they’re dickheads with no humanity.

My take on HD has gotten considerably worse over time. I used to think he asked good questions, at least sometimes, and wanted discussion. And sometimes I’d try to give very thoughtful responses. But it very rarely went anywhere – one time he said “great response!” or something like that, but that was it. I had the total opposite take on an issue (Muslim immigration, IIRC), and he didn’t bother to actually address my points except to say “attaboy!” (or something like it).

Now, I think it’s clear that all he cares about is sticking it to Democrats. I’m not even sure if he cares about any actual issues (except maybe guns) – just trying to show Democrats in a bad light. I’m engaging with him less and less because I think it’s less and less likely that he’s actually interested in an exchange of ideas.

Wow. Fuck that guy.

While I do agree that Franken needed to apologize and do a bit more to atone, Just about the best reply to the Republicans that want to make it the same as what they are doing in Alabama now is this meme spotted in reddit:

Yes, and even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Do you sift through the Washington Times or Breitbart looking for gems of truth not found elsewhere?

We’re well past the point where it is a productive use of time to inspect Sean Hannity’s compost pile (or Trump’s, or Shodan’s) for four-leaf clovers or glimmers of understanding.

Ditka is a snivelling punk. His support of a serial sexual predator leaves his credibility at zero. For his breed of conservative, party not only trumps country but morality too.

Welcome to the revelation.

Great that you could finally join the group. Coffee’s ice cold by now and the table is thoroughly picked over, but if you’re lucky you might find half of a stale cruller.

I didn’t know that Shagnasty was a politician.
