Much ouchie.
Strong antibiotics.
I’m sorry. Diverticulitis sucks, and I’ve only had the mild version. And they don’t tend to give antibiotics for the mild stuff.
You have some company, however:
When do I get my Official SDMB Pope Hat?
Definitely no fun. I had a sneak attack of diverticulitis that perforated and I was moments away from sepsis. Was the 104.7 fever a clue?
This is my third attack.
My MIL got it a few years ago on the second day of family vacation in OBX. The hospital there was very nice. When she got released they gave her a nice T-shirt that read “I spent my vacation at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, NC.”
My dad was hospitalized once with diverticulitis. Antibiotics cleared it up. I remember my dad was in a lot of pain.
He had to change his diet. Gave up nuts, popcorn, sesame seeds etc. He cut back on red meat and fruits.
That helped. I can’t recall if he had any minor flare-ups. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t hospitalized for it again.
I was plagued with diverticulitis for years. I finally had to have surgery to remove 20 cm of lower intestine because the scarring/stenosis was so bad.
I’ve modified my diet and vastly increased my intake of vegetables, fibre and water; AIUI the whole nuts/seeds thing is an outdated mode of thinking but if it works for you go with it. I haven’t had an attack in two years so, crossing fingers… Obviously, you should follow your doctor’s advice and change up your diet post attack once you’re healed up.
After removing my entire sigmoid colon in February, my surgeon told me to keep on eating whatever I like with no changes or restrictions.
You can have it more than once? That is a scary thought. I hope you recover quickly.
Antibiotics are helping.
What kind of diagnostic tools are they using? CT scans, MRI, or just xrays?
I’ve been dealing with kidney stones. CT scans give amazing detail. They can measure each stone.
It would be interesting to know if pockets ofdiverticulitis shows up on scans.
They do. At lest, mine did but the doctor’s got a much better picture with the colonoscopy. Good Times.
I’ve had two scope jobs. Just routine precautionary tests.
The t-shirt no one wants to collect.
What would that even look like? A stick figure with a cable up its butt saying “Hey, this Cologuard tastes great, and is less filling…than a bucket of cement.” Pictures at 11?
My dad’s had several attacks, and lost his ascending colon to it a few years back. He had a restricted diet for a while, but AFAIK he can eat almost anything now.
