Djembe or dun players out there? Traditional percussionists?

It never occurred to me to ask – of all the musicians on the Dope, do any of you play traditional/hand percussion?

Djembe here, both slop/improve in circles and I’ve been taking lessons from a couple different schools (Tam Tam Mandingue in D.C., a non-affiliated Guinean teacher now). Mrs. Dvl played the piano for years, picked up the drums a little over a year ago, and has been taking lessons with me ever since.

Anyone else?

How about alternative percussion? I saw a band a few weeks ago that uses a tap-dancer for percussion. Great band-name as well; Born Again Floozies.

Tom Waits has a history of found-objects percussion as well.

I play both djembe and dunduns, experience with both hippie/jam/improv circles and have taken lessons at Bantu Camp for the past two years.

I have hit a few djembes in my day.

I studied and played with a West African Drumming ensemble from 2001-2007

Also studied some karnatak music from Southern india, Mrdangam and kanjera

I play conga more seriously, Its how i pay a lot of bills!!
