DnD sites?

Are there any sites where you can play DnD by post? I used to play on RPOL, but my group fell apart. (one of my close friends there got really sick with cancer and her husband was the DM). I joined another group but the DM didn’t update anything for a month so I just left. Does anyone know of another place, maybe? I know there was a site hosted by MSN I believe years ago, but I can’t find it.

One option is EN World, the largest unofficial D&D website out there. The link takes you to the “Playing the game” forum.

I think D&D Insider, a new WOTC initiative, allows you to pay to subscribe and then play online with other folks. For a subscription fee, you get access to some 4th edition online tools. I’ve never used it and have no idea whether it’s worth the cost.

We have three games here on the dope in the game room of course. You might find one to your liking and one might fit.

I assume you are looking for a site more dedicated to D&D games though.

Good Luck,
Jim

thanks Daniel.

I really miss my old group at times. It was play by post, but we had a good group and a great DM. I can never find anyone to play in RL, mostly due to the nature of my job. (army). 2 duty stations ago I wanted to find a group and couldn’t…and then when I was within 2 months of moving to a new assignment a civilian coworker mentioned the group she was in. When I asked why no one had ever told me she said “well, we just thought you wouldn’t be interested, Sarge.”. I could only laugh and ask why? Because I’m not a fat guy in greasy clothes living in my parents basement? Thats an unfair stereotype.

I’v said enough about my next assignment in recruiting on these boards to let you know that it sucked too much to consider gaming.

…and here…well, if theres a group here playing on saturday nights and I don’t know about it, more shame upon me! There ain’t enough people to keep secrets. Trust me, here at the NATO school (you can look it up on Wiki) its like peyton place sometimes. People know what you had for breakfast half of the time.

I wish things had turned out different on RPOL. We had am imaginative DM. He would take whatever backstory you had for your character and work it into plots and storylines that weren’t corny and made the game fun. I still keep in touch with him, but he hasn’t time to DM with his wife, who is also a friend, being sick.

I can always look. Thanks Jim.

BTW, since we’re all on first name basis, I’m really Mike, not Roger. Though I can be Jolly at times.

D&D insider has a 3D dungeon environment with voice and text chat. I’m not sure of the DMing capabilities or anything, but so far it looks like it could work pretty well.

Just a summary of the IMDB games include a 1st Ed heavily modified Middle Earth base game (I am the DM). A 1st Ed heavily modified Britain of the Robin Hood period but fantastic as opposed to mundane (ref’d by Glee) and a Viking campaign ref’d by Malacandra.

I am at eight players and two reserves already, so unless you are really into Middle Earth, I would see if the others can accommodate you. I think **Glee ** has an opening or two. I just filled two last week. I have not kept track of **Malacandra ** game, so I am not sure of the status. I am sure that the game forum could support another game or two.

Hey, thanks man. I appreciate it. I’ll have to look into it tomorrow, since its nearly midnight here and I need to go to bed soon. Plus, I’m not running on all cylinders right now. (70’s party last night…haven’t recovered yet  )

Never mind who’s DMing–who’s directing?

Daniel

My friends and I have been using www.myth-weavers.com for our current play by post game. We’ve been very satisfied with the utility of the site so far. If you need a place to run a game from, you can do much worse. I think you might be able to find open games there as well if you peruse the forums.

Well now in a typical and all too common typo by me, there is a grain of truth is there not. The DM and the Director are rather similar except in scale.

I would welcome another player  , since a couple of my original ones had to drop out.

As What Exit says, each of the three SDMB games has a different flavour, so have a browse of the threads first.

You might also want to check out this site: http://www.dndonlinegames.com/index.php

I played a few PbP games on there, though, they died out due to lack of participation by some of the characters.

I’m checking some of these places out too. We’re starting out a new D&D 4th edition group in north Jersey. So far we have 4 people, Hopefully I can find another two mature gamers.
