Inspired by the Amtrak debate thread.
My city is served by the Amtrak Downeaster, which is said to be one of Amtrak’s more financially successful routes(Brunswick, ME- Boston, MA). They offer special packages in addition to just train service. These may include tickets to attractions, museums or sports events in addition to train fare. Sometimes hotels as well.
Do any other Amtrak routes offer things like this?
Yeah! They’re called Amtrak vacations:
Better yet, there’s also the USA Rail Pass. Make your own vacation! I just spent the last few months doing that… you can buy 7/14/30 day passes, go across the country using any of the routes you like (with very few exceptions) and then book your own fun stuff along the way. Fall in love with a place and want to stay somewhere a bit longer? No problem. They are excellent about changes, no fees or bullshit like the airlines. Great way to see the country.
