Do eyes change color or is just perception?

My eyes seem to change from blue to brown to green to hazel. But are they really changing or is just factors like the clothes I’m wearing, lighting, etc?

Your iris has different pigment patterns at the pupil and the rim. The amount of iris showing will vary with the light levels, and your emotions. That can cause a change in the amount of each color that is visible. Although the difference is slight, people pay a lot more attention to your eyes than most folks think.

Related anecdote:
when my youngest bro was 17, two of his oldest friends (there were 4 boys born in the same appartment building in the same year, so they’ve actually worn each other’s hand-me-down baby clothes) went up to him and told him “ok, we’ve been arguing about something and we figured we’d ask you. What color are your eyes? Cos I’m saying grey and he says green, and yes, we know it’s a dumb thing to be arguing about.” Bro’s eyes are usually grey, blue when he’s excited and green when he’s happy.
