Do-it-yourself methods of making Cold Brewed Coffee

I’m a big coffee fan & recently tried some “cold brewed” coffee at a local shop–and I’ve become a big believer.

I’ve been looking at different ways to brew my own batch at home & it sounds pretty simple. I’ve found the “Toddy Cold Brew” system online, but am reluctant to purchase it due to some of the negative comments regarding it’s shoddy construction.
However, it looks very easy to rig up a homemade system to brew this coffee-the only challenge is in the filtering…

I saw a great suggestion online to use a French Press to filter the coffee. Basically, you just wrap a paper coffee filter around the screen & press & voila.

I’ve decided to try this method & was wondering if anyone else has done this. Still trying to figure out coffee ground-water ratio, etc. Rather than reinventing the wheel, I was wondering if anyone has tried this method with any success? Any tips on how much grounds you used?

If anyone else has any tips & tricks with Cold Brewed Coffee–please share!

There are other threads that have discussed some methods. The one I use is just to dump grounds into a bowl and add cold water. Let it sit overnight and strain it through a fine sieve. Works just fine.

I did the dump the pound of coffee into a vessel of water and set in the fridge overnight thing. I filtered it through a coffee filter held in a seive. Came out fine. Stored the coffee in a spare nalgene container I hijacked from a friends lab =)

Toddy Makers work just fine. They ARE conveniant because they have the bucket,
filter, and a collection jar to keep all the coffee nectar in. Bucket and a filter method works just fine, too. I used to filter my coffee by setting my regular coffee makers drip basket over my jar and slowly dripping it thru a paper filter.
