Amen. My understanding is that modern landfillls are very stable, and really, is it more wasteful to leave a box of china no one wants in a landfill forever than in a closet forever?
The library I volunteer at uses it for a lot of things we can’t sell in the self-service bookstore, textbooks or multiple copies of something being the main thing, and we can also directly send culled library books to them. They sell them, we get a percentage of them (I don’t know what that is) and when our share comes to $50, they send us a check. We average several hundred dollars a year from them.
Realistically, none of us knows what we might need in the future.
Some things, of course, one can be pretty sure one won’t need in the future. The ripped underwear that doesn’t fit can go in the trash. Even in my house.
But what if you need a rag?
That’s what the ripped shirts that don’t fit are for.
Well, I’ll take the cylinder player if you really don’t want it…
Thanks, Beowulff, I’ll keep it in mind. However, my family is full of cranks, so I might find a taker a little closer to home.
