21 million bucks, huh? I was tempted to use the “make an offer” button and bid five bucks, but I don’t want to piss off someone with the mentality that it takes to go all Pollock on a skateboard and declare it worth a damn thing.
Yeah, but…FREE SHIPPING! What a deal!
Are the pics of the artists / seller with chicks supposed to substantiate the skateboard’s value?
I generally roll my eyes at people who declare that their 5 year old daughter could do replicate some piece of art, but seriously? I can throw a bunch of paint splatters on a skateboard myself. Now, obviously I didn’t, so maybe the artist is a genius for coming up with the idea, but if I really wanted that in my home, I’m confident that I could replicate it myself pretty well, rather than throw away $21 million.
Obviously, the point is moot because I don’t have $21 million in the first place.
Maybe I can throw paint splatters on a couple of rollerblades and get $21 million on eBay, though. Hm.
How much do you think this thing would go for on etsy, btw?
P.S. I looked at some the artist’s other work, and I actually quite like it. Much better than the skateboard, anyway. And it’s more reasonably priced, too. I am confused.
If you click on the “view other items”, he has multiple art objects for sale at $21 million. It appears that market is flooded with high end art pieces by this mayoral candidate.
I bet he knew this would get spread around and people would see his other work and buy that.
I seriously doubt this regular old skateboard is 100% handmade by the artist (as the ad states). In any case I have a half dozen old boards laying around my yard right now that look better than that one. They certainly have more character. There is an art shop at National Harbor (Washington DC area) that sells a lot of painted skateboards and skateboard sculptures that look better than this one too.
$21 million for a skateboard? Tell ya what. I’ll sell you one for 75% off and learn to ride it, too!
I wonder what happens if I press the ‘buy it now’ button? How would eBay handle a transaction of tis magnitude? It wouldn’t go through any sort of credit card… would they get someone to call you and set up a transfer?
I’m going to try to talk the guy down to 20 million. Hey, no one takes advantage of me!
Is that a real “artist.” A Google on his name doesn’t bring up one result in any mainstream news publications, or a wiki page–on the first page anyway. It is all self promotion stuff. Anyway, I got bored and went over to regretsy.
I’m assuming the chicks are included in the selling price.
Wow, so now bullshit artist is really a type of artist.
Considering that he has over a 100 pieces of art for sale on ebay at $21 million each, I’m sure that’s exactly what he’s hoping for.
Actually, maybe this guy is smarter than we think. What if he waits a few weeks and then drops the price to $5.25 million and proclaims a 75% off sale?
I think we have a winner.
Without these 21 million dollar offerings this thread would not exist. Without this thread I wouldn’t have checked out his eBay page. Without checking his eBay page I wouldn’t have browsed his artworks that are in the more reasonable hundreds of dollars range. Not really my style, but theoretically I could have been in the market.
And of course, he is just a mouse click by someone with a malfunctioning brain away from 21 million dollars! What does he have to lose?
That’s pretty much what I assumed. With the added bonus of giving us some commentary on the commercial art world.

lissener, I would appreciate it greatly if you’d put some text in your posts, instead of just a link. Describe what you’re linking to and why you’re linking to it.
That way, people don’t have to worry about what they’re going to see if they click, and they don’t report the thread, asking the mods to do something about it.
Thanks much.

Man I miss out on all the cool internet scams. First the Rapture Insurance for pets, then the Nigeria scams, now this. All it takes is one [del]sucker[/del] buyer and he’s set for life. And the girls, even if included, are middling to average.
I do love how it now says it sold for $198.
Still more than I’d have paid for it though.
