Humans are actually programmed to help each other, and therefore feel better doing so. Who knew?
I got an unexpected holiday bonus at work. My friend/coworker ended up, on the same day, going in for emergency surgery, which means missing out on a full day’s pay. She’s a single mom, always short on funds, etc–iow, she’s the person I was just a few years ago. So I gave her my bonus, and tomorrow we’re going shopping for her kids’ Christmas gifts.
