someone told me they do, but I think it is gross
Do you dip your grilled cheese in tomato soup? Same thing, but cold instead of warm. Not gross at all.
I don’t dip it in tomato soup and anyway there is a lot more difference between soup and ketchup than just temperature
Have you tried one or just think it’s gross on preview?
I’ve never had it but it sounds pretty fantastic to me. We’re just talking about toasted bread with grilled browned butter and melted cheese - iti sounds like it was invented to dip in catsup.
Wait, what kind of cheese? Kraft American singles or havarti? I say yes on former, no to latter. Gotta keep it classy.
I never tried it but I guess I will have to now
I have never seen it done. However, it is common to put a tomato on grilled cheese and it is even more common to eat grilled cheese with tomato soup. Every person I have ever seen eat the soup and sandwich has dipped the sandwich in the soup. I tried it once and it made me gag. I will eat them in the same meal but not at the same time. To me, the flavors and textures are grossly mismatched. But, I know of many people who mix grilled cheese and tomato based stuff so it wouldn’t surprise me to see someone dip it into ketchup.
If it matters, I love grilled cheese, tomato soup, tomatoes, and ketchup so it’s not a bias against one or the other.
No. Nobody ever does this. It is frankly an outrage that you are even suggesting it. Nobody in all of recorded human history has ever made a grilled cheese sandwich and then dipped it in ketchup. Why in the hell would you say something like that? Why?
I just… I don’t even know what to say. I mean, I’ve been on this message board for a long time. I’ve seen a lot of shit posted. But this, this takes some kind of cake. Some kind of cake that YOU WOULD PROBABLY DIP IN KETCHUP, YOU PHILISTINE.
Jesus. What the hell, dude? What the hell?
hey I was just wanting to know if it was a common practice no need to be so mean
I was born and raised on that! I think I was weaned that way: take away the milk and give me a corner of a ketchup-dipped grilled cheese to suck on. (Of course, that was in the Prairies in the 1950s.)
A tip: As you get near the end, eat the crust and save some of the softer centre part to mop up the last of the ketchup.
YUCK! NO! NEVAR! I love grilled cheese. I love tomato soup. I may dunk the grilled cheese sandwich in the soup if I have both of them at lunch. And for me, only Velveeta goes in a grilled cheese sandwich. I love ketchup. I’m one of those Philistines who puts it on steak and hot dogs. But I won’t eat a grilled cheese with ketchup. There I draw the line.
Just havin’ some fun with you, son. Lots of people do lots of things on this crazy blue marble. Hell, it wouldn’t surprise me if someone, once, somewhere out there, had even dipped their grilled cheese sandwich in mayo. It could happen. It might be happening right now.
Heavy, man.
Pretty much the norm when I was a kid and common from my experience.
To give you a little perspective, my mom eats French Toast (hot or cold) with ketchup. That’s a whole different level of weird as far as I’m concerned.
I’m gonna break your brain. I don’t dip grilled cheese sandwiches in ketchup.
I put the ketchup in the sandwich before I grill it.
At first blush I thought it sounded nasty - but then I remembered that I love grilled cheese and tomato soup! So it might not be too bad.
I’ve never seen anyone do this. I have, however, personally observed someone dip a chocolate chip cookie in ketchup and it eat.
To be fair, it was a high school boy, and they’ll eat anything. But still.
I dip my grilled cheese in ketchup. I prefer it over tomato soup. It has garnered me some strange looks in the past, though I’m not sure why. It’s just another way of adding tomato to a grilled cheese.
There are people who will pour ketchup on absolutely everything, so it doesn’t surprise me. But I agree that it is very different than tomato soup.
I’d also argue that a tomato-based soup is a lot better than pure tomato soup, which is often too thick for good dipping. Ketchup is even thicker, so that would be even harder. The bread wouldn’t absorb any flavor at all.
I can’t believe this is even in ‘dispute’. It’s totally delicious! In fact, I am completely serious when I say that I wouldn’t even make the sandwich unless I had ketchup to put on it.
I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
Ketchup goes well with cheese. I mean most people like cheeseburgers which uses the ketchup on the cheese.
So many things are tomato and cheese, ketchup is just an extension. I have used ketchup on cottage cheese, though I don’t care for it, simply because ketchup tends to be overpowering. I prefer a bit of salsa or Louisiana hot sauce to spice up the old cottage cheese
