Do people really dip their grilled cheese sandwhich in ketchup?

So use proper puncuation and capitalization and you won’t be mocked!

Y’all are a bunch of heathens.

You dip grilled cheese sandwiches in mustard, not ketchup.

Slee

Same goes for me!!

Ok except Velveeta but that is a different thread.

Some folks even make their grilled cheese with mayo spread on the outside of the bread instead of butter. I’ve tried it, and there isn’t all that much difference.

And I’ve never eaten grilled cheese with ketchup myself, and don’t think I’ve ever seen it done, but it still doesn’t strike me as all that weird.

The discovery I’ve made that makes grilled cheese much better is rosemary. Just sprinkle a little between the slices of cheese (and yes, of course you have multiple slices of cheese in the sandwich).

This is my feeling as well, but to each their own!

The kid dips her grilled cheese in ketchup, I prefer chilli sauce.

Yum, I know what I’m having for lunch.

I’ve never tried this, but I’ve heard of it, and it doesn’t strike me as all that strange. After all, in GC, what you’re using the fat (of the butter) for is browning, not flavor. So you could use almost anything that doesn’t have a really distinctive taste of it’s own, that’s nearly all fat, and do just fine. Corn oil would probably do the trick, in the event of a Grilled Cheese Emergency.

I’ve never done it, and never seen it done, and I do dip my GC into tomato soup. But tomato soup and tomato ketchup are two entirely different things, and I wouldn’t want to try the ketchup thing.

This, however, I will definitely try. Sounds divine!

I grew up that way but I do it less and less the better the cheese that I use. If I’m making a nice grilled cheese on rye bread with some quality five (or older) year old cheddar, then Ketchup isn’t going near it.

If you’re using a blue cheese, then a good fruit conserve is also nice, though I prefer a chutney (I’m all about the spicy lately)

Nah - grilled cheese gets dipped in or made with mustard.

Not bad with fresh, cold salsa, too.

Quiet, you!

:smack:

This is how I was taught to make grilled cheese - spread the outsides of both pieces of bread with mayo, drop a dollop of butter in the pan to melt. Fry well on both sides. I like the way the mayo creates a nice semi-salty crust on the outside of the bread. It works much better than butter.

My husband introduced me to dipping the sandwich in ketchup. It’s delicious.

I dip mine in French dressing.

The hell you say.

The only use for ketchup is on French fries, and even in that capacity it is inferior to malt vinegar (although a million times better than mayonnaise.)

I’ve seen people in Georgia put mayo on the inside of their grilled cheese sandwiches. I was seriously shaken the first time I saw such blasphemy. The only thing other than cheese that belongs in a grilled cheese is Huy Fong Sriracha.

If it weren’t for ketchup, my eggs would taste funny.

I still relive a guilty pleasure from my early 1960s youth when I make grilled cheese sandwiches using Cheez Whiz. Yumyum good.

I might try grilled cheese with ketchup, but first I would add some pepper sauce and maybe some spices to the ketchup.

If I have no soup but I want grilled cheese, I dip it in ketchup. Dipping is awesome and I love playing with dipping things in other things.
