Do people really want IRS-Care?

I, for one, welcome Glenn Beck, errrrrrrr, Poptech, to the SMDB.

I wonder why the CBO hasn’t hired Poptech, since he knows so much better than them what’s going on.

Hmm- “IRS-Care” is the worst you can come up with? How “Sex Offenders Get Free Viagra” care? or just plain Sex Offender Care.

I prefer, “Pretty Much Only Ignorant Ideologues are Opposed to This-Care.”

Needs more Hitler.

I agree that a majority of ridiculous people are opposed to the health care law. Further, I agree that most people who are opposed to the law are ridiculous.

Yeah! We’re not going to sit here and listen to **Poptech **badmouth THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Gentlemen!

(exit whistling the Star Spangled Banner)

Because then he would be part of the government, and by (his) definition, wrong. It would be a mistake for the CBO to hire him, but since the CBO is always wrong, it follows that they should hire him. It makes perfect sense.

I’ve said this in other threads, but plz, if you’re thinking that the mandate is unconstitutional think of it like this:

Congress just raised taxes on everyone in an amount equal to the mandate penalty.

Got is so far?

There is a tax credit equal to the mandate penalty for everyone who has insurance.

Got it?

If you think the govt. can’t do this, then they can’t offer tax credits for anything.

Well, with cites from mensnewsdaily.com and the highly vaunted Ludwig Von Mises Institute, you can’t really go wrong…

:stuck_out_tongue:

We don’t actually know this, no. In fact, it might not do any of them…or it might do all of them. It’s hard to say at this point.

Simply put, this is horseshit. Some services and functions simply have to be done by the government because they are too large or use time frames that preclude using private companies to do them. Defense springs to mind…as does the road infrastructure. As to regulation, it’s a mixed bag, but only the most rabid libertarian thinks that things could possibly work with no regulation at all, or that all regulations are bad.

The idea that this is unconstitutional both has merit and is completely beside the point. That ship sailed decades ago, and we have over 80 decades of case history and precedence on this issue now. The time to fight the Constitutionality of such programs was when they were first introduced during FDR’s presidency, not now. It’s rather silly and pointless to bring this up at this late date.

Oh, bullshit. Liberals and progressives don’t believe in the Constitution? You’ve been drinking from the kool-aide a bit too much.

I wouldn’t be holding my breath. While there will be an inevitable shift towards the Republicans in the next election cycle, I think that you (and the Republicans and pundits you are obviously listening too) are vastly over estimating what that reaction will be.

Do you drive on private land only?

Did you or your kids ever attend public school?

If someone attacked your kid’s school - and obviously you can’t get there fast enough because you refuse to drive on public roads - do you expect non-government workers (which means no school faculty or police) to stop it? Hope your kids have strong arms and bullet proof vests!

And assuming they survive it and come home and you walk them to the car at the end of your driveway, if for some reason you hit something between the driveway and the car, your kids will go flying through the windshield because you won’t have any mandated seatbelts in your America-mobile.

And since you can’t use government roads, and sure as hell don’t want to use emergency services, you’re kind of screwed, right?
Such is the price of patriotism!

I love how people don’t know a good thing when it’s kicking them in the face.

Up here in Canada, when I want to see a doctor I go see a doctor. The only “bureaucrat” I have to deal with along the way is the receptionist who schedules appointments. If I were so inclined I could go see a doctor today for any reason whatsoever. If I have a problem, the doctor and I will decide how to best treat it. There will be no insurance company involvement whatsoever (so no “death panel” deciding my illness isn’t worth treating).

Now let’s look at the world Poptech wants to live in. Let’s say he’s right and the Democrats are going to get their asses kicked in the next election. Let’s suppose the righteous anger of the ignorant reigns supreme and the Republicans win not only a majority but a super-majority (won’t happen I know but play along for the hypothetical please) and they decide to immediately repeal, renounce and urinate on Obama’s socialist health reforms. So now we’re back to where we started.

Along comes Poptech. He’s whistling Dixie because that damned dirty government’s hands are no longer all over his health care. And he goes to the doctor all happy because while he still has to pay for this wonderful privilege at least none of his hard-earned money is going to the government.

But there’s bad news. The doctor says “I’m sorry, Poptech, you’ve got a terminal case of ass cancer. Unless it is treated aggressively your guts are going to fall out in four to six weeks and it’s going to hurt like hell.”

No worries, Poptech thinks. I’ve got insurance! So he goes to his insurance company and tells them what he needs.

They laugh in his face, tell him he isn’t covered for shit and they no longer need him as a customer, wish him a happy death and have security escort him out of the building before he can make a scene. Poptech cannot get insurance anywhere else and the doctor’s prediction shortly comes true. But despite the suffering and pain, Poptech is content because at least the government didn’t get any of his money!

Poptech, you might be young and healthy now but at some point your health will betray you. Are you really ready to pick up the pieces if that happens? Got several thousand dollars socked away for that single ER visit that will cost more than you ever imagined? Prepared to deal with insurance company bureaucrats who you never see who have the sole purpose of denying your claim for any reason they can imagine?

At least the government won’t get your money.

Stick a fork in him, he’s done. This is like watching a pack of lions all gang up on a single gazelle on the Discovery Channel.

Why do you hate our troops?

Yeah, it’s a feeding frenzy, no doubt. Of course, based on the few threads I’ve seen that the OP has started lately, it’s not going to be a new experience for him (or her)…

You know, it’s funny, but down here in the fascist nation of America, when I want to go see a doctor I do exactly the same thing! Fancy that!

So, in Canada they have unlimited health care? That’s…amazing! Everyone needs anything gets it? And it’s completely up to the doctors? So, if the doctor says that you need a hip replacement then BAM! There you go? Or if you need a new heart then SHAZAM! New heart? Incredible. I suppose that if I wanted corrective surgery for my eyes then they would just give me that too…as long as the doctor approved? The government just kicks back (no bureaucrats! just…wow!) and says ‘Here is an unlimited budget. Do any procedures you like, so long as the doctor approves, mind! wink wink, nudge nudge’.

I know you guys get everything you want (despite the fact that I lived in Canada and this wasn’t my experience…I probably was living on the wrong side of the tracks from the magic unlimited budget part), but, well, could I get a pony too? I always wanted a pony…

Bonus, said kids will get extra facial lacerations since Poptech won’t be forced to buy Nazi-Socialist safety glass in said windshield, because we need our windshields made to shatter into lethal shards when broken, like Henry Ford intended.

Never had to worry about whether you could afford it or not? That’s nice.

Yeah, because those of us raised in South Tucson all have silver spoons in our mouths! Unlike you white liberal types, no doubt, who had to muddle through with things like electricity, running water, cars and all the other burdens on your lives…

(The irony is all one sided on the above, no doubt, as only one of us knows that they are making silly and baseless assumptions…)

His argument was a counter to the “canadians can’t just go see the doctor when they’re sick, because of the bureaucracy of socialized medicine” argument. He was saying “we don’t have to jump through any more hoops than you do when you’re sick”, and you missed the point.

Also, the bigger point that you’re missing is that we liberal types aren’t trying to improve American health care as much as we’re trying to keep people from going bankrupt when they get sick. We know you can get good health care in America. Most bankruptcies here involve medical bills, and 3/4 of those folks HAD INSURANCE when they got sick. That’s the real issue here.

And I’m certainly aware that health care reform is needed, and in favor of it to. I just don’t know how well this bill will solve the various problems. Guess we’ll find out though, since this thing is a done deal at this point.
