Do pornstars use drugs onscreen to enhance their acting?

I didn’t think this statement was controversial. Finding web articles using sexual search terms is near possible so since I can’t back up my assertion I will retract it, but I don’t see why you think it is not done. A very hot guy going to crowded mall, chatting up a cute girl who thinks he’s hot as well, yes asking her to appear in a porn may get him slapped 9 times out of 10, but surely you offer a girl in a mall 1000 dollars to screw a hot guy, you will eventually find a taker? Surely some need money and would agree, right? A hot guy can go to a bar and find a girl he has never met and sleep with her that night for free, why not same hot guy at the mall offering 1000 dollars?

On second thought, I retract this retraction. A business owner of any type who needs attractive or interesting people would be nuts not to appraoch someone they see, anywhere they are. Aren’t there several cute adorable kids form commercials who were found this way? And how about Lana Tunrer, legitiamte actress discovered in a drugstore or some such? Maybe she dreamed of being in the movies her whole life, maybe the guy appraoching her put the idea in her head, but it was proposed and she agreed, no different than porn.

This is the seed of the fantasy they’re trying to create. The more people believe this is possible, the greater appeal in that sort of porn. I think your perceptions have been clouded by their very active attempts to perpetuate that illusion. I sympathize with the challenge of finding any concrete information on the subject, and would suggest that this difficulty benefits the producers of porn. It’s good for them when it’s difficult for the rest of us to separate fantasy from reality even when we’re actively trying to do so.

I think porn stars and strippers are a lot like magicians, in that they understand very well that their marketability depends entirely creating illusions and fantasies, and they refrain from publicly undermining those illusions. This is why I don’t think you can believe interviews with pornstars in which they bubble about how their work is all pleasure and they orgasm on screen all the time. I think most of them are just working actors who are fairly good at what they do, and find the work neither terribly pleasant nor unpleasant. If a large majority of porn stars came out and said the work was usually exploitive, disgusting, uncomfortable, and/or painful, I personally wouldn’t be able to enjoy it anymore.

You’ve succumbed so thoroughly to the illusion that you aren’t seeing the difference. First and foremost, there’s the difference that someone is creating a potentially embarrassing image of themselves on a film that they will never control. That alone is enough to spook most non-professionals. There are probably random mall chicks who would go for the idea “in theory”, thinking the photo shoot is going to work something like a fashion shoot, they’ll get cute outfits, and they’ll only be asked to do fairly softcore vanilla sex. But they’ll run screaming for the hills when they’re given a tube of anal lube and some fat bald guy with a camera wants to set up camp 3 inches from the crotch.

It was once said… I forget who… that when your new girlfriend asks you “What’s your greatest sexual fantasy”, she’s not asking if you’re interested in her hot friend. She’s going shopping for clothes and is looking for your input on boots.

Also I think you’re looking at this from the male point of view… probably most men would go along with reality porn schemes without being asked twice. I forget where I read this, but male pornstars will usually do a scene for 1/8th the money it takes to get a woman to do it, just because more men are predisposed to random sex. So as a man, you should be aware of that internal bias when you’re judging what you think a random woman would do.

I’m curious why you assume that there’s some negative secret. As you point out, the individuals involved generally say they enjoy the work. In general, most people would consider having sex with attractive people to be enjoyable. So why assume that a large majority of porn actors secretly find their work to be “usually exploitive, disgusting, uncomfortable, and/or painful”?

I do run a highly successful porn site, and GuanoLad works with me.

We have a strict no-drugs policy on shoots, and have sent models home for (being suspected) of being under the influence.

We go to significant lengths to ensure models feel comfortable to enjoy themseves genuinely, and to have real orgasms. Usually it works well for all parties (models, us, customers), but sometimes the model is just not in the mood. We have an equally strict no-faking policy as well.

I suspect there is drug use allowed (tacitly) on porn shoots in general, but I don’t think it’s as common as people assume, especially these days. Most producers are scared of what might happen if they keep being irresponsible - worst case scenario is the government steps in and regulates (aka, destroys) the industry, and no one wants that.

I never said I assumed there was something negative going on. I pointed out that the participants benefit from the illusion that it’s all one big pleasure party; therefore they aren’t reliable sources as to what it’s really like. That’s why I threw that whole magician thing in there, see? It’s not in their best interest to disclose their secrets. As to why I think some aren’t enjoying it, well, in some tapes it’s clear that some people aren’t.

To repeat it again… porn is different from what “most people” would consider enjoyable in that it generally involves being intimate with people you don’t know, and there are camera crews parked next to your genitals in order to get that perfect penetration shot. The success of the porn illusion is illustrated by your ability to airbrush this reality from your concept of how “most people” would respond to a porn set.

Nowhere did I ever say that was the case, for heaven’s sake, please brush up on your reading skills. Some people might be enjoying it; in fact it may well be more than some, but it’s impossible for us ever to know for sure because of the commercial importance of the illusion of pleasure. That illusion is part of what keeps it appealing for consumers. Perhaps it’s true to some extent, but it’s difficult for us to find out from neutral sources.

Hmmm, Abby Winters* perchance? Apples and oranges though compared to SoCal?
*I hope I hope I hope I hope, but not in a weird way =D If so, why no anal?

Really, think for a minute. Your example is quite different from finding Lana Turner or some ‘cute kids’. You are talking about approaching strange women and suggesting they appear in a porn film. If even one person reports it to mall security, or wherever, your porn scout would end up banned from a lot of places.

They advertise for ‘actresses’ in the trades and in regular papers and get, I’m sure, plenty of wannabes that way without spending hours prowling around in public hoping that one out of hundreds of women might take them up on such an offer.

That’s me .

For kids, cuteness has very little to do with it. What agents look for is professionalism, and the ability to separate from parents, and a certain quality of being on when the camera rolls, a certain charisma I only was able to recognize after being around a lot of professional kids.

I don’t know anything about the porn industry, I don’t even watch, but I do know it is an industry, and they only make money if they churn out product. There aren’t a lot of malls in any one place. How many days would producers be willing to let the cameras sit idle while they look for that hot chick? Do you think anyone is going to be able to tell the difference between a real amateur and a fake amateur? The professional is going to be more convincing, I bet. Not everyone can act, and I bet not everyone can repeat the sex while a different camera angle is being set up. Anyone who has ever been on a set knows it is not very exciting.
I can see why they script this fantasy, though - clearly some people are turned on by it.

Let me point out a possible source for answers to these questions:

The other day whilst nosing around the mall bookstore I saw - Ron Jeremy’s autobiography (the title was something like The Hardest (Working) Man in Hollywood). It didn’t interest me, but I’m sure someone in this thread (in the interest of science, of course) would be willing to get a copy and give a book report.

I haven’t seen a lot of porn, but the “reality porn” I have seen has all looked fake to me.

For example, I saw one where a guy goes into somebody’s backyard on the pretext of retrieving a basketball. There are 2 girls ib bikinis, both 19 years old, who agree to engage in acts with him and eachother, on camera, for $100 each.

How many basketballs would you have to throw before you get a hit like that? I would guess at least 1,000,000. So much easier to just hire a couple porn actresses to act out the scenario.
