Do Roaches Bite?

My cousin called me recently to say that a roach had bit him on his leg. He said he had been watching television when he felt a stinging sensation on his leg. When he looked he saw a roach at the spot of the pain. Ergo, he concluded that a roach must have bit him. So far no ill effects. However, I never heard of roaches biting people. What is the truth?

New York City roaches don’t bite. Trust me on this one. Now, if your cousin lives in sub-saharan Africa all bets are off.

Yes, roaches will bite people!

The first time I ever heard of this was from a friend. He was in the bathroom shaving and felt a stinging on his ankle. He looked down and a roach was biting him. I really didn’t want to believe him. Then it happened to me. I have been bitten by a roach. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Both of these bites happened in the South. Also, both of these were those huge roaches that don’t breed indoors, but occassionally get into houses. Those nasty flying ones. I don’t know anything about Northern roaches.

so the bloody pacifists have finally decided to fight back huh?

Cockroaches do bit, and will try to eat anything that’s organic. That includes all of us. :stuck_out_tongue:

Only the larger roaches can be felt though skin though.

I wrote bite…they even eat the letter ‘e’!
:wally

A horrible memory…when I lived in south central Texas, I was bitten by a roach that had been hiding in my pants leg.

The big ones do.

It’s common in the Philippines to get bitten by cockroaches. Over there, they’re usually about an inch long. I’ve been bitten by them.

When she was a kid, my mom was bitten on her lip while she was sleeping. She said it was because she went to bed without cleaning her mouth.

Hey, I learned something new today!

I’d have said no. I frequently handle the big guys at work. We’re talkin’ two inch Hissing Cockroaches and three inch Giants, the kind with wings. In nearly four years I’ve never had a bite.

Guess I’ll treat 'em with a little more respect now, just in case!
