I have a Motorola C139 trac phone and I am thinking about getting an Eton FR160 crank radio light which has a usb jack for charging cell phones. My phone just has a little dc jack into which the charger plugs. Is there a cable that will connect these two?
Thanks,
Rob
A lot of phones these days use mini USB connectors. Go to someplace like monoprice.com and look through their USB cables to see if one of them matches up to what is on your phone.
However, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, make sure that your phone is using a USB connector and expects USB level voltage (5 volts). If the phone is expecting a different voltage you can damage the phone and/or the radio light.
If you’re talking about a cylindrical/coaxial power connector, I know there are some that do exist for certain plugs. I have a couple external drives that use a second USB connector for power. Although that’s for the size normally seen on a computer; I don’t know if the radio would use that or something smaller.
However, you’ll need to find one of the right size on the charger end as well, and there are a lot of slightly different designs for such connectors. More important is e_c_g’s point about matching the voltage. If your phone doesn’t charge over USB normally, it seems unlikely that it will charge on 5V.
Combine it with something like this and you should be good to go.
Their are adapters and cables for everything
