Do things just taste better on carpet?

That must be it.

Out of curiosity, was your dog originally a stray or otherwise lived a significant portion of her life on the street? I ask because I used to have a dog, originally a stray, who would do largely the same thing – any food given was immediately hidden somewhere, and he would take goodies and hide somewhere before eating them.

No, that’s what I don’t get either. I’ve had her since she was 10 or 11 weeks old (she’s 6 now). And believe me, she quickly became THE Pwecious Pwincess of the entire family, bullying even my sister’s rottendog

She’s very spoiled and has never wanted for anything. I’m her primary human, but my coworkers, family and friends all petted and fussed over her, especially when she was a puppy (she spent most of her first couple of years at the office during the day), in case she might have been by some strange miracle been feeling alone or bored.

She did originally have another family, but the breeder said that they brought her back. I can’t for the LIFE of me imagine why, this is the smartest dog I’ve ever seen in my life (too smart, I think that’s where some of her neurosis is from :D).

IIRC the other family got her at 8 weeks, and brought her back within a week. The only thing I can think of is that they didn’t like her “fault”. She’s a miniature aussie, and their ears are supposed to (or at that time were supposed to) tip over into what’s known as a “tulip ear” not all the way floppy, but just tipped over at the very tips.

With shoesdog, one ear stands straight up, and the other has the perfect tulip ear look. Personally I LOVED it on sight, I couldn’t have cared less that it made her “pet quality” and not show or something (not to mention she was one of the prototypes pre-AKC for mini-aussies), I loved the rakish character it gave her.

I suspect it’s just the extremely high strung nature of some of that breed, though the newer aussies are starting to display a more settled calmness in some lines. I kind of like the high energy though, even with all of the psychosis, it makes for a lot of personality, I’d rather a few truly weird habits than a pet that has very little or no personality.

But then, who knows? Maybe she was the littlest of her litter and got screwed out of dinner one too many times? I wouldn’t be surprised if her memory were that good.

Count your blessings, TuffPaws. My sister’s dog won’t even eat anything from a plate. It has to be on the floor or he won’t touch it. She tried to fool him by putting down a plastic mat, but no. Even that was too plate-like.
His water bowl also has to be cleaned and refilled several times a day whether it needs it or not. He’ll just stand in front of it and bark until you do.

He’s a cute, feisty little furball–a LhasaPoo–but stubborn as a Missouri mule.
