what did the RC church use during the Prohibition? was alcohol completely banned?
I do believe that ceremonial wine was legally exempted from Prohibition laws.
Yup… the wording of the XVIII ammendment states “… intoxicating liquors…for beverage purposes…”
We’ve been through this one already:

The production of wine for religious purposes was not banned. Interestingly enough the production of such wine went up by quite a bit.
Non-alcoholic grape beverages were also sold with specific instructions on how following these steps would make it into an alcoholic beverage in violation of the law.

Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all weekend. Next week I’ll be appearing at the Laugh Shack on Route 6. You’ve been a lovely audience. Good night!!
LOL
I’m imagining my parish’s priest sneaking down into the church’s basement, in an exaggerated cartoon-ish style. He moves aside a dust cover to reveal a large blue vending machine and gets some wine for communion. As he leaves, an announcer says “Some people will go out of their way for RC.”
