Do we care if Casey Anthony's parents pass a lie detector test?

It reminded me why I rarely watch Reality tv. The only exception is The Voice. I grit my teeth at the mild manipulation.

My problem with the Lie Detector special was their constant implications that George was lying and failing. They even implied any lies could cause a break-up with Cindy.

They did that for a hour and fifty minutes. Then the retired FBI examiner explained he consulted with another retired colleague and both agree George and Cindy weren’t lying on the important questions.

The examiner’s professionalism by consulting with another colleague is commendable. That’s a fair test because the other person only saw the graphs. He wasn’t influenced by meeting George and Cindy.

The bias that the program promoted can’t be reversed in ten minutes. Many people will reject what the examiner said.

George and Cindy must have known what this would be. They’ve been beat up by the media for 15 years.

I agree with Beck that this could have been a opportunity at getting to the truth. That show could have been edited to create sympathy for the grandparents that tragically lost a beloved grandchild. The lie detector results could have been prominently featured to change some people’s minds about this case.

Now, lets see Casey get hooked-up to that machine.

I know I’ve been participating but I don’t actually know who Casey Anthony is. (Looking it up now.)

I didn’t follow it at the time. Just heard snippets. I was too busy.
I read some threads here.
The Prosecutor of the case Jeff Ashton wrote his book Imperfect Justice. I read that.

The whole thing is a horrible story into the dysfunction of a family.

I briefly looked at Wikipedia and it looks like there was very little physical evidence to go on. But a kid died, whether by murder, neglect or freak accident and that is sad. I feel like always being in the public eye like this is making it harder for them to move on. Like they are stuck in this grief loop trying to resolve something that can’t be resolved. That’s my hot take.

Florida does not have a statue of limitations for perjury in an official proceeding relating to a capital felony. It’s a specific exception in our law. So they can be prosecuted if they admit to lying on the stand.

They didn’t reveal anything.

There was a very “pregnant” pause over the question did George know of Calleys whereabouts and if he was involved in it. I mean like they hovered over it a full 10minutes of the show. Uncomfortable to watch.

Of course in the end they both were told they came out “truthful” and passed the test.

The most horrifying part was when they were asked if they had any words for Casey. Cindy was “We still love you, but you’ll never get your baby’s ashes”
George said “You’re not my family anymore, you blew it girl”
Sad.

Perjury is so rarely prosecuted. And if someone says on a TV show “I lied on the stand”, and the DA goes after them, they can just say “Oh yeah, I lied on the TV show for the entertainment value”. That’s not a crime.

Did you learn nothing from Al Capone’s vault?

It’s a crime if you lied on the stand.

Okay, but did they lie on the stand, or in the TV show? Being as perjury is so rarely prosecuted, there’s no way this would be.

If they’re smart(no indication they are) we’ll never know.

If I were them, I’d shut my mouth, go somewhere and no one would ever see me. Especially not taking a lie detector on TV.

You are correct. There is no scientific evidence to validate the results of a so-called lie detector test. The process is designed to intimidate the person being tested in admitting information against their self-interest.

That at least makes sense. A lot of the biggest federal crimes are white-collar stuff, and even of the ones that aren’t, sometimes you can catch the criminal based on financials (like Al Capone being busted for his taxes). And so you want the people who can comb through the books to find the irregularities.

I’m sure others have probably told you this already, but it sounds like you dodged a bullet anyway. Imagine if you’d aced the test and ended up working for those jerks.
