There goes again **SlackerInc **thinking that going for the same old personal dig against me is a winner, also he seems to think that (or just thinks that not reading the article on a link is a winning idea before replying) trusting that the spin of the right or some misguided moderates makes a controversial idea a political non starter is not the whole thing to “end” all things.
In reality the candidate I pointed as an counter to what Slacker claimed actually won the primary election against the one that was misstating what the defunding of the police was all about.
With everything happening in America, this recreational bullshit outrage reddit crap is what the podcast-monkey wants to talk about.
Hey Slacker? Shut your fucking pie-hole. If people of goodwill offer symbolic gestures that some how ‘overcorrect’ for actual slavery, segregation and centuries of oppression, boo fucking hoo. Put your big boy pants on. Thanks in advance, if such a wondrous event ever happens. And take your sad, fragile victimboys, UrbanDouchebag and UltraStupid, with you.
Spare me the “pretendacrat” bullshit. If the GOP right now were represented by the kind of people in the Lincoln Project, and the DNC were totally overrun by BLM and the woke scolds currently hounding JK Rowling, then you might actually have something. I would be somewhat torn and might swing from election to election and split my ticket. But as long as the GOP is the party of Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Matt Gaetz, and the DNC is the party of James Carville, Seth Bullock, and Nancy Pelosi, I’m not going anywhere.
I am always going to align with thoughtful, well-educated and intellectually curious people who support Enlightenment values and vigorously support free speech. But in the GOP, those sorts of people cannot win: they are swamped by the aggressively anti-intellectual redneck class. On the DNC side, we do have some less sophisticated folks in our base, but they have not disrupted the primary process the way the know-nothings in the GOP primary electorate have done. In fact, the “poorly educated” segment of our base saved us from Bernie Sanders, and I salute them for that.
ETA: The TL;DR is that it’s beyond absurd to believe a self-admitted intellectual* snob like me could possibly support the GOP in its present incarnation.
*Or “pseudointellectual” if that’s what you believe me to be. Either way, the point stands.
Someone who can’t think their way out of a jam in a parking lot without pulling a gun on the person pestering them or driving over someone else clearly isn’t all that bright.
I’m not here to feel good about myself, I’m here, in this instance, to point out SlackerInc’s retrograde attitudes. Thanks for being concerned with my happiness, though.
Yeah…the ones who don’t respond by offering to show a bunch of internet strangers pictures of standardized test scores are the ones who want to feel better about themselves.
Certainly I know and care. As I have made it clear elsewhere, I am 100% for gay rights and in fact I think it’s stupid that people get hung up on trying to live some sort of stereotypical gender existence instead of just letting everyone be genderfluid.
The only place where it really matters is in the walled garden of women’s sports. I have been a big fan of women’s tennis over the years, but maybe it’s just not worth it and we should just have a single open class for any and all comers. That would of course be dominated by cis men, but at least the controversy would be made moot.
Slacker tries to “prove” that he’s a good poker player, in response to a post that had nothing to do with actual poker:
This is of a kind with his ridiculous “proof” of a high test score, and is positively Trumpian in a very interesting way - almost identical to Trump’s response to Bill Maher’s joke “offer”, years ago during the height of birtherism, to give millions to charity if Trump could prove that his father wasn’t an orangutan (this was years ago, and Trump showed his birth certificate publicly in response, demanding that Maher pay up).
It’s indeed funny, but it’s also sad. Slacker, this kind of obsession is not healthy. No one is convinced by these ridiculous anonymous stranger internet “proofs” you offer, but they obviously take you a decent bit of effort to put together. You don’t have to respond to random insults from strangers, and the elaborate “proof” you offer in response shows nothing more than that you have a slightly odd connection with reality, and an unreasonable expectation about the gullibility of strangers.
What are you on about? You think I created the sharkscope website just now, and entered a bunch of made up statistics? Get a grip!
What I actually did is type “sharkscope.com” into the URL box, then “slackerinc1” into the search box at the site. Then I copied and pasted the link. It’s called a cite, look it up.
ETA: And yes, I am aware of the metaphor being used there. But if someone’s going to insult me by saying I’m a bad poker player, and in fact I have spent thousands of hours playing profitable poker, I’m going to point that out. Deal with it.
This is the root of the problem - that you think stuff like this makes you look good, or impresses us, or is of the slightest interest to anyone. That’s what andy means by “Trumpian”, that you must counter any statement that you feel shows you in bad light, without realizing that these defenses make you look worse.
So yes, we will indeed deal with it, by continuing to point out how silly you look when you do stuff like this.
Get it through your fucking skull: I’m not trying to make you into my friend! I’m utterly unlike Trump, who is constantly looking for people to shower praise upon him. I don’t do that: I usually go look for people to knock heads with (metaphorically, of course). It’s verbal combat, as a kind of sport. But combat in which I am absolutely sincere in the principles I’m fighting for.
The exception of course being that I do also use this site to chew the fat about movies and TV shows I watch, or occasionally other random cultural interests, in the appropriate forum. But if it’s in GD or the Pit, or usually in Elections, I’m there to throw down, not make friends. (Although at the same time, if I do see something I agree with, I will say so–and I have expressed a desire for a “like” button for that purpose.)
Yes, this is exactly it. Slacker, your “proofs” don’t prove anything except that you’re a strange, silly person.
I play the piano moderately well, though I’m out of practice. I’ve even written a few relatively simple piano songs (and one string quartet). But if some internet stranger says that I suck at music and can’t even play an instrument, guess what? I don’t care. Responding to that would just be silly. No one cares that I happen to have a little ability in a relatively common skill. And I don’t care if a stranger doesn’t believe me. Trying to prove them wrong would make me look ridiculous, not them.
Another way of saying this - Slacker, no one cares about your test scores. No one cares about your poker ability. Internet strangers just don’t care about the details of your life and person at all, not even a little bit. That you think we might shows a bit of Trumpian narcissism.
