Do we have any self-proclaimed liberals who own guns on the board?

I didn’t ask you, and I don’t have to. You make your own choices for your own uterus, and leave mine out of this.

In the spirit of collective uteri, I will not.

I cannot.

Disparate as our uteri are, I would remind you of our personal responsibility with respect to reproduction. If “personal responsibility” sounds cliche to you, your never had any: move on back two squares.

That’s an entirely separate matter, Allan.

My six healthy, bright, well-mannered children are living, breathing testament to my sense of personal responsibility. The fact that I’ve never chosen to have an abortion doesn’t change my opinion that your opinion doesn’t matter here: you don’t get to make my choices, only your own.

Oh, Fibonacci. The OWNER of the uterus is the boss. (Bob Hatcher said that, and I’ve been quoting him for several years) All other uteri, absent or otherwise, need to tend their own endometrii. No moving back two, or any, squares. Responsible owners, of uteri, testicles, or armaments, have managed, quietly or not, to make considerable progress towards humanity in this country in the past decades. I’m a wu fei person meself, preferring to direct the course of the stream by placing pebbles. Don’t hijack the thread, please. Are you liberal, and do you own weapons?

Lacunae- go you. I was typing as you were, apparently

Thank you for your defense. Seriously.

And, as a well-armed mother of six? I promise you, I can put up a good fight of my own. Pretty soon, we’ll have a movement going…

Sing it the next time it comes around on the guitar… with feeling!

Ha!

Agreed.

I’m pretty far left. Used to have a couple of 357’s, but now I’m down to a .22 pistol and a 12 gauge pumpaction. I’ve enjoyed shooting since I was about eleven, use the 22 and shotgun for very occasional target and skeet. Never been a hunter.

I have not had sex in over 6 years because I 1) have a heart and I can’t enjoy it without love and trust.

And I have guns but don’t feel particularly empowered by them. They are just guns I have and I shot a rabbit with a 22 LR in my garden in 2008 when they were overpopulating the area and a coyote who was raiding our hens. I don’t understand why this is even a subject. And the sperm and egg debate can go to another (Great Debates) forum; it will never be solved here

Agreed.

I have worked with some very manipulative people who have used their reproductive rights to a bad end. I don’t see an equitable solution to this. Kids are not pawns and this is not a game. I appreciate this discussion even if it was originally about guns or whatever. It’s important to flesh out some of this stuff and, hopefully, come to an understanding at a meaningful level.

I mentioned the abortion issue simply because it demonstrates my own political leanings - along with same-sex marriage, the separation of church and state, and the advisability of social welfare programs, belief in a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions falls solidly on the liberal side of the political aisle in the United States. You were the one who jumped in to tell me that my opinion is “wrong.” If you want to debate abortion, feel free to start that thread.

As an addition to my answer to Skald’s actual question: I agree with several other posters here that have stated that guns and gun ownership should actually have some common-sense restrictions. We as a society have no problem regulating even our most cherished rights (no yelling “fire” in a crowded theater, for example.) Safety training requirements, regulations on safe storage, and universal background checks would be good things, in my opinion.

I did no such jumping thing. I wrote, “Your reproductive choice ends when you choose to have sex. Guns, your choice of husband, and “animal control” have no bearing on who you have sex with.”

Get over yourself. We could be friends if your posts weren’t so painfully disingenuous.

I believe that G. B. Shaw once said something about wrestling pigs. Not gonna fall for this one.

Huh. This thread took I suspect a predictable turn. To get back on track-

Yep. I definitely have liberal leanings, but try to consider all sides. I have NO idea what the fuss is about gay marriage. And I’m pro-choice.

I have 10 guns. All handed down to me from my father.

I see no need to innovatory them here. But they are a mix of shotguns, handguns and rifles up to .356 (an odd rifle caliber not that is hard to find)

‘Common-sense restrictions’ ended up as ‘ban’ here. And easy to enforce, because they knew who had them, and where.

I have some fairly liberal opinions on social and environmental issues. Centrist on the rest, except the 2nd Amendment.
I also have lots of guns and enjoy shooting.
If the Repubs ever take over and repeal the 1986 machine gun act and prices got to a more realistic level I would probably own a few automatic weapons.
I do not belong or contribute to the NRA.

I am as much a pig you are George Bernard Shaw.

Peace be with you, we are 180 degrees in our differences. It is a conundrum.

Namaste,

Khatruid

Had one, until we got preggers, gave it to a friend. Going to get a serious air rifle next year and thin the local squirrel population, to give myself an even chance at some fruit next season. The kids are now almost 18 and 16.

Voted for Obama 2x.

Shotgun, rifle, 2 Glocks, a pearl handled .38 and a tiny “purse gun” .22 revolver that’s about 3" long.
