Do we know where Muhammad is buried?

How much do we know about the important sites in the life of Muhammad?

Do we know the exact place of his birth? His death? His burial? His revalation of the scriptures?

Thanks.

Type “Muhammad” into Google and you’ll get all the info you’re looking for.

Here’s an informational site.

Well Muhammeds house actually was still standing until not that long ago but it was knocked down by the Wahabbi religious authorities who disliked the fact it had become a place of pilgramage (They felt it was becoming a form of idolatry, strictly forbidden under Islamic law).

Thanks for the tip…never considered that…

Actually I searched for Muhammad on Google and was overwhelmed with information on lots of Muhammad’s.

That’s why I asked here.

Again, thanks for helping me gather the info I need. You have been a big help.

(Slight Highjack) Does anyone know if Mohamed’s tomb has been opened since June 8, 632. Is see the History of his grave (below) but no mention of the tomb was ever opened.

The original mosque, built with mud bricks and tree trunks in 622, covered an area of 8,661 square feet. The caliphs Omar and Othman expanded the mosque in 638 and 650, respectively. Further expansions were undertaken in the early and late parts of the eighth century AD. By this time, the rooms in which the Prophet and his companions Abu Bakr and Omar were buried were incorporated into the mosque and a dome had been built over the rooms.

For eleven centuries no major additional improvements were made to the mosque, although various Muslim rulers funded renovation work and endowments for the mosque’s operations and upkeep. The last expansion before the modern era was completed in 1849 by Sultan Abdul Majid the Second, bringing the mosque’s total area to a little more than 120,000 square feet.

In 1950, Saudi Arabia undertook the largest expansion project the mosque had ever witnessed. It more than doubled the size of the complex to accommodate the ever-increasing number of Muslims visiting the site, which grew steadily year by year, reaching more than 100,000 in 1955.

Ummm…underground?

I thought that Muslims believed he ascended into heaven. Do they believe that or do they believe his Earthly remains are buried here? Or some mixture of the two?

They believe Mohammed ascended to heaven at the al-asqa mosque in Jerusalem, but came back again and died a natural death later.

Okay, I’m now officially fascinated by that bit of cosmology. Is there a (scripture?) reason Mohammed ‘descended’ from heaven?
