do you do the dish and other "women work" ?

Was my post #85 somehow lacking in clarity?

Both of you are warned.

Frank,

Please accept my apology. I posted into this without reading all of the pages in the thread. I never saw Post # 85, and so wrote my post unaware of your remarks.

I should have read through the thread fully. My bad.

I moved out of my parents’ house a few weeks ago into my own (small) place. I do all the housework, and so far I’ve been quite proud of how well I’ve done. Don’t get me wrong, I did housework at home, too - but there was always the safety net that if I didn’t, my mum would eventually do it for me. Plus, at home we had a dishwasher - now it’s manual or nothing.

I’m perfectly happy doing all my own cleaning and cooking etc - after all, it’s my mess, my dinner - and I don’t think that there is any reason to categorise this stuff as “women’s work”. My girlfriend doesn’t know how to iron, for example - something that might have to change if she does move in with me (ironing my own shirts is one thing - ironing her clothes is another thing entirely  ).

Seriously though, I have no problem ironing her clothes - although I would get annoyed if she had the cheek to complain about how badly I’d done them. We often joke about her living with me, and how I’d expect my dinner cooked for me every evening. Funny thing is, she’d love to cook my dinner for me each night (probably coz my idea of cooking is to bring pasta and shop-bought sauce into conjuction in a hot pan).

Jackpot!

I did the dish a couple times… I was a dick and the wife left me. Never do I want to do the dish no more.

Apologies. Didn’t read your post, or (more to the point, perhaps) the 2 previous ones that had already said exactly what I was thinking. Won’t happen again.

Oh, yeah. The husband gets all the rewards he wants when he makes dinner and cleans up the kitchen, or does a few loads of laundry for me. Rowr!

I see there is still no response to the request for an age / marital status. Quite frankly bearing in mind other posts by the OP, I’m not sure I’d believe it.

I enjoy cooking and invariably wash the dishes. I clean the house on occasion. My gf does the laundry. She also does a fair chunk of the DIY as I tend to lop rough edges off of my body with the most innocuous of tools. I don’t do enough housework but I try.

BadBadger, I have also noticed the OP has refused to answer repeated requests for age/marital status/educational level. Kinda makes me wonder if Mom knows he’s playing on the computer.

My husband does a lot more of the cooking than I do, because he likes cooking. I do the dishes most of the time, which is kinda the short end of the stick because he can use every pot in the house to cook a simple meal! Since he’s working full-time right now and I’m not, the extra housework is only fair. I do the laundry - but he irons his uniforms if they need it. If I have something difficult I need ironed, I ask him to do it because the Army taught him how to iron and he’s better at some things than I am! We both work in the yard, because we both enjoy it.

If he doesn’t make some progress toward organizing the shop (that we are supposed to share) I am going to do it. And if he can’t find something, tough. I offered to do it and he said he would - and promptly went in and undid everything I had done. That was over a year ago and I can barely get in the door, let alone find anything!

That’s what she said!

HA! HA! HA! HGzzp
