Do you eat in dreams?

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten in a dream. I may have drank, though.

Most of my dreams involve driving. All sorts of vehicles, though it’s usually cars, it’s frequently buses. I don’t drive in real life; I’ve never learned.

I’ve also never had a flying dream, instead I hover a few inches off the ground like I have invisible roller skates, so I can propel myself but with no friction.

I can’t say whether or not I’ve ever eaten food in a dream. It’s the sort of commonplace that there’d be no particular reason to remember later on. I wouldn’t be able to say if I’ve ever brushed my teeth in a dream, either.

The ‘not being able to find an acceptable place to pee’ dream seems to be pretty universal. I used to have them fairly frequently, but can’t remember any lately.

The odd thing in my case is that I would occasionally have a dream where I’d succeed in finding a private place to urinate, and succeed in doing so, in the dream. (And, yes, without urinating in my sleep IRL. Haven’t wet the bed since childhood, thank goodness.) That would take care of the need to go to the bathroom in the dream, but I’d still need to go when I woke up.

And I’ve died once (that I can remember) in a dream. Got guillotined, and was still conscious for several seconds in the dream after my head was severed from my body, then faded out. Don’t ask me where that came from, because I have no clue.

That was lovely.
I eat and drink infrequently in my dreams, but I do.

I also can smell things, see in color (although sometimes I dream in sepia-tones), read and do math (although what I read and mathed changes almost instantly, and usually doesn’t make consistent sense), drive, have sex, and die in my dreams.

One eating/drinking scene I remember vividly from young childhood involves crossing a bridge over a river of chocolate milk (I was a kid, run with it) and being really happy that there was a little elevator/freight drop located in the middle of the bridge so you could lower yourself down and scoop up cupfuls of chocolate milk on your way across.

I just woke up from falling asleep on the couch, and thought of this thread. In the dream I just had, I was that actor from the Dresden Files, driving an old 70’s boat of a car. I drove to an old Chicago neighborhood, where they still have gas burners built into the front sidewalks of their houses close to the curbs. Only people in the know are aware they’re still there. I get my cast iron pan and a steak out of the trunk, leave it open, and proceed to get a great sear on the steak before anyone realizes I’m there. Just as I flip the steak, the lady of the house I’m in front of looks out the front door, trying to figure out what I’m doing. Just as the steak is getting done, her husband comes out onto the porch, saying something to the effect of me leaving. I grab the hot pan with a towel and put it in the trunk, the steak is done, with an amazing seared crust, perfectly seasoned. I have it stabbed with a large fork, and am eating it as I drive away, just as the gas company is arriving and the husband is out in the street, directing the gas company to shut the gas off. I turn the corner, taking big juicy bites out of this wonderful steak like a lollipop off a fork, and I wake up.

Last night I dreamed that I was sharing an apple with The Walking Dead’s “Daryl Dixon.”

It was awesome.

I eat in my dreams all the time. It’s usually a food that I really enjoy so often I wake up craving that dish. Maybe this is because I go to bed hungry a lot.

I think there’s a Korean old-wives’ tale that says eating in your dreams is an indicator of an oncoming flu or cold. That hasn’t been the case for me at least.

I laughed because last night I dreamed I ate all my daughter’s Halloween candy. I was ripping open packages and stuffing my face with chocolate. I swear I could taste it too.

I could see that - I have been having dreams about eating for hte past 3 or 4 days and I woke up this morning with that annoying tickle in my throat and heavy feeling in my right sinus that means a cold is coming - I started my masonex/guaifenesen this morning. If I keep it up dedicatedly for the next 7 days, I can avoid getting the whole sore throat, post nasal drip, cement in the sinus cavity deal.

My craving dream last night - perfectly done meltingly rare grilled steak, small steaming hot with melty butter and black truffle shavings baked potato with crispy skin and a perfect globe artichoke with melted butter. One meal that is pretty much my entire days worth of calories, and more fat than my poor abused gallbladder can tolerate in one shot. One glorious shot :frowning:

When I used to do really restrictive dieting, I would dream that I ate one of the forbidden foods. Just like The Story

“Last night I dreamed I ate a chocolate cake
And when I woke up I was sure it was true
So I weighed myself just to make sure and drank a Diet Coke”

(“Because someone will adore me when my ribs show clearly
And I’m thin even when I sit down”)

My teeth are watering now.
