Do you ever eat bacon and eggs for dinner?

I’m surprised that nobody has used the expression “All Day Breakfast” - does this mean it’s a British but not an American phrase? Means exactly what it says.

Cite: Here’s a BBC recipe.

It’s something we used to do. Sad fact is that now I can’t eat red meat, it’s a thing of the past. Well, I say sad, but … the one red meat treat I used to allow myself was a single rasher of bacon once a month. After a while I realised I didn’t really enjoy it any more, so I stopped. So it’s another healthy step. But all the same…

Uh… can I have your bacon, then, Treppenwitz?

In America, the phrase “all day breakfast” refers to a certain sort of restaurant that serves breakfast all day (though they usually have other foods available, too). They’re usually open 24 hours. It’s not any particular dish, such that you could say “here’s a recipe for all day breakfast”: There’s a variety of breakfast foods available, so you’d just say “Here’s a recipe for pancakes”, or whatever.

I think that these restaurants originally started to cater to blue-collar workers on odd shifts, but then it turned out that lots of other folks liked it, too.

And we have learned of the concept of the “full English breakfast” or “full Irish breakfast” on this side of the pond. Do one of those right, and it’s an all-day meal, in the sense that you won’t be hungry again until the next day.

Not in a long time. During long car trips as a kids there was usually a Denny’s or equivalent next to the motels we’d stay at so I’d sometimes get sausage/eggs for dinner and pancakes the next morning. I remember that I thought their attempts at non breakfast foods were pretty bad to my not so sophisticated child palate.

The college dining hall often had a light night breakfast for about 3 days before exams but it was just some sort of small breakfast sandwich which was more of a snack than meal.

Aside from that, I’ve never really understood breakfast for dinner, but if you like it, knock yourself out. I think I’ve had dinner for breakfast more often over the last few years.

Every once in a while because the whole cooking time is only 5 mins if you use microwave bacon.

It’s usually when I don’t have anything else on hand I’d rather eat and I’m wasting time trying to decide among other things I don’t really want.

My dog is always psyched, he’s like, this is between you and me buddy.

Yes, we call it backwards breakfast.

Pro tip - Don’t fry up the bacon (or sausage) while nude. :grimacing:

I’m speaking as a guy, but it probably applies to the gals as well.

Great Idea! I’d go there in a heartbeat. Not sure my heart would appreciate the trip though.

Huh? No sign of that name in this thread now.

As to the OP …

Not so much at home. When I’m not up for cooking, I’m more apt to warm bulk food like pre-made homemade stews I keep on hand or to have a snacky picnicky meal like various cheeses, fruits, nuts, cherry tomatoes, etc.

At work though …

When work ends at 11pm wherever we are and everything is closed but Dennys or the equivalent it’s breakfast every time for me. Diner dinners are often nasty; their breakfasts good & hearty. It does feel weird to eat eggs & bacon w/o coffee though. Then off to bed on a full but greasy tummy & back to work tomorrow early. At least it’ll keep you regular  !

Are we still forbidden to accuse people of being Russian bots? How often did this really happen?

I get why the traditional American Breakfast made sense when a person got up at 5 am to bale hay until a noon lunch, but our modern life makes it bizarre. My stomach has to wake up also so a salad or brunch fare makes more sense.

Usually I eat a bagel or English Muffin.

But yeah, I have had breakfast for dinner on occasion, but it’s at Denny’s cause I’m drunk and need to put a belly full of booze to sleep.

Several times a month. I’ll make up some bacon weaves and throw them in the oven for bacon and egg sandwiches. My daughter has mastered scrambled egg and potatoes fried up on the stove.

One of my favorite quotes is that it’s never too early for pizza or too late for breakfast.

Hmm… you’re right! He, she or it had posted something breakfasty, and the SD bot noted that it was a first post by he, she or it. Now it’s gone.

We split a tiny rib eye last nite, and had it with eggs, fried potatoes and a biscuit.

This.

A late night Denny’s Grand Slam is a perfect capper to a Saturday night out with friends.

There was a post in this thread that was deleted, and it itself looked innocuous. I’m not the one who deleted the post, so I can’t say for sure, but the most likely explanation is that it was a spammer who made a few “normal” posts for camouflage, before dropping its spam payload elsewhere. That’s not an uncommon tactic for spammers. And while that spam payload might have been Russian political propaganda, it’s about a thousand times more likely to have just been the standard spam trying to get people to buy something.

(and I’ll be very disappointed if nobody picks up the straight line)

About every 10 days, I bake a fresh bread and on those days we always have an omelette for dinner. One of my favorites is made by cutting 4 slices of bacon into small pieces, frying them and then pouring the eggs over the bacon and let it fry that way. Other omelettes are made with cheese sprinkled on it or fried mushrooms and peppers.

I would never buy spam, I hate the stuff. Not sure I could be hungry enough to eat it.

So, yes, I got it.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

Same here. I like breakfast foods but I don’t typically eat breakfast. Unless I’m taking a morning yoga class, then I have a little yogurt beforehand. Otherwise, lunch is the first meal of the day.

I had an omelet and toast for dinner 3 times last week. We’ve been eating lots of eggs in the past few weeks because they’re practically giving them away. There must be some sort of egg overstock - I’m not sure if it’s local or widespread, but the last time I went to the grocery a dozen large eggs cost 45 cents. In addition to the breakfast for dinner thing, we’ve made a lot of egg salad, deviled eggs and quiche.

I also like oatmeal or cold cereal with milk as a bedtime snack. I sometimes tell people I don’t really skip breakfast, I just eat it before I go to sleep.
