It’s rare, but I love to do it… Create my own scenes, perhaps future scenes (and then seeing how it actually plays out)… Usually inserting myself and editing it to expand the imagination. Sometimes I’ll wonder about a remake, and how it would be made modern.
During a show, never. But if there’s something I like enough for long enough, I’ll make a stab at fan fiction about it.
Only three TV programs have made it that far for me. Doctor Who, Bonanza, and The Untouchables.
I’ve never paused during a film, but I will often spend the next few days re-writing it in my imagination. Like all amateurs, I always think I can do better than the professionals.
I once paused something the wife and I were watching and said something like, “This is so stupid. All they would need to do is blah, blah, blah”. Hit play, and they did exactly what I said in the next scene.
I often replay scenes in my head for days. Adding and subtracting things.
I do this (in real life as well - usually out of my control)
I’m looking forward to the day when we have a choice of whether to watch the Plain Old Version of a movie, the Director’s Cut, or… MortSahlFan’s Awesome Remix.
By the way, I do the same thing. Sometimes with movies I haven’t seen in decades (my epilogue to Time Bandits is heart-wrenching and hilarious all at the same time).
You mean the interstitials? That was the word I came up with 40 years ago for the scenes I would think up to be inserted into episodes of MASH. Of course, back then there was no such thing as pausing a movie or T.V. show, but you could still come up with your own scenes to insert. I don’t typically pause a show or movie, but I still come up with alternate scenes and plots that I think would be better. Sometimes a movie will just seem wrong to me, and I’ll figure out how to make it work properly.
MortSahlFan’s mix tapes!
Sometimes it’s a 30-second pause to take it all in.
My mind goes off on dialog tangents all the time.
I’ve never been smart enough to pause the show when this happens though. Once I snap back to the show, I’ll do a 2 minute rewind.
