I marked “differently.” I will most likely post a little less, but when I do, I expect I’ll be less circumspect about my cynicism. I was confident in Trump’s victory before the election, but I soft-pedaled it a lot because people were enjoying a moment of optimism and it felt boorish to harsh on their glow. So while I’m likely to cut back a bit, the more significant change is that I feel less obliged to veil my views.
I feel very American.
I love this place.
I feel like the Parents who have raised a completely unruly, selfish and troubled kid.
We created this mess (even if you voted the correct way).
We need self-reflection as to why this has happened.
America needs to stand in a corner and think about what they’ve done wrong.
Alas…
(Oh, I’ll post nearly the same, I expect)
Please explain to me how “we” who voted for Harris “created this mess”, and what “we” are to learn through “self reflection”?
I guarantee you that >1/2 of the voters don’t believe THEY created any mess and don’t feel the need for self reflection.
This forum isn’t full of bots as far as I know, I’d rather post here than reddit.
Same (or similar). I expect significant changes in my reading and posting here over the short term. Beyond that, I’ll probably skip more of the outrage threads, but I won’t avoid politics entirely.
Since I mostly hang in the MMP, I don’t expect anything to change. I avoid GD and P&E - this place is just a hangout for me.
I’m rarely on anymore due to work. I reckon I’ll just be busier, but I’ll still pop on from time-to-time.
Still here after 24 years. You’re not getting rid of me this easily.
Tripler
Nope. Nuh-uh.
Yeah, I’m in for the long haul too.
I opted for “about the same.” There’s plenty to interest me that isn’t political: Thread Games, CS, sports in the Game Room, and who doesn’t need to share something mundane and pointless from time to time? Heck, sometimes, I can even answer an FQ.
So, for me, about the same.
I"ve been here off and on for 20 years. Nowhere else have I found the quality of posts I find here. There aren’t nearly as many posters as there were years ago (before reddit), but there are still a lot of high quality posters here who have thoughtful things to say.
I used to be just like you you know. I was cynical, always afraid everyone was a bot, always afraid there was an ulterior motive.
Then I discovered lemongrass muscle rub. Just rub a handful onto your arms and legs and you’ll be stress free and fast asleep. Available at AliBaba.
That’s one weird trick!
Obviously the population of the US wasn’t ready to go another way, by more than half.
This country has been racist, misogynist and treated immigrants (altho’ basically we all come from immigrants except for indigenous people) like crap since day one.
We even treated the indigenous folks so so horribly.
We have used and misused the resources til we’ve done horrible things to the land, air and water. Killed animals into extinction and endangerment.
We’ve raised generations of children who cannot do anything but play on their phones and whine about being triggered by almost any thing you can imagine.
(I sat at a school cafeteria once and cut frog pictures out of 23 work books and 23 companion readers because one little girl had a “primal” fear of them. I’m sure every school district in America has that one child, that one parent every year in every elementary classroom. Every one.)
We nearly sat by and let a pandemic kill many many more. Out of sheer “it’s my freedom you’re messing with” ideas.
Yes, we Americans have issues. We’ve done more than our share of wrong. That doesn’t mean we give up. We’ve repaired some things. We stumbled, but we get up consistently.
At this very moment in our time the kettle has boiled over. This mess didn’t start with Trump. He brought out latent bad feelings. He gave people a voice to rant and rave about how they feel mistreated. True or not, they think they’re feeling it. They’re still Americans.
I think they’ll feel the bite just like we Democrats do. Realization will grab them where it hurts.
It’s obvious they’re not gonna listen.
Americans who want to see a better future and to stop this need a better message.
That’s all.
That may be the case, but I really don’t want to be reading posts about Trump ALL THE TIME for the next 4 (or however many) years.
Are you sure? Impotent rage is very entertaining.
Grief, despair, rage, confusion, sadness.
Its going to be a blast.
I suppose all the actually fake accounts I’ve seen weren’t actually fake, you’d know better.
For the time being, I’m posting less. I think this is my first post since the election. Pretty sure, in fact.
I’m still in denial. Other stages of mourning remain for me to pass through.
I’ll be reading and posting about the same. I’m on this site to learn and potentially teach.

After 40+ years of trying to be quite informed and active in politics and social issues, I think I’m done. I’m a strong supporter of the governmental services and safety net. But if more than half of my fellow citizens are going to actively work against that, I’m not going to exhaust myself in the time I have left trying to counterweigh a freely elected government.
That’s kind of how I’m feeling. I’ve spent years trying to argue with people to make them see things more rationally, and it’s just gotten worse. It feels like it’s time to admit that I’m just fundamentally out of step with these people, and they’re never going to change. So, cover my own ass, try to help others cover their asses, but quietly acknowledge that we’re pretty much fucked if the horse-brained masses decide to take a close look at us.
I’ll still vote for what I believe in, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to lose for the foreseeable future. If so few people see the same problems as me, and don’t want to fix those problems, well, there’s nothing to be done about it.

It depends on whether and/or how much the board bends to accommodate the emboldened right.
You really think that’s a risk on this board? LOL

I won’t be so much about the rage, I’ll be cheering on the leopards. Democrats getting eaten is going to happen no matter what I do, so I might as well enjoy the Republicans getting what they wanted, good and hard, while I’m here.
