I have a Jewish friend who happens to be female and she and I joke alot about the JAP business. She’s not offended in the least, however, were i talking with other Jewish foulks I wouldn;t presume they’d accept it.
Also, in working for a group that has to do localized versions of manuals for programs and tools, i made the mistkae once ONCE of abbreviating Japanese as JAP. I mean I was in a hurry and when you’re saving files for 9 languages you want to make them easy as possible… Spanish SPN, Brazilian Portuguese BRP… Simplified Chinese SCH… Japanese JAP just popped out… I caught it quickly though… now i use JPN.
