People stopping you in the street asking for charity donations? In UK you get them on the main streets they stand spaced out on the pavement(sidewalk) trying to trick people with their smiley faces. I dont mind giving to charity but when you have to walk past them twice every day it gets a bit much. I end up never giving them any money. Now if they were to appear say onece a months or something I may well give a donation.
Yeah, they’re all over the fucking place here in Dublin.
To me it depends a bit on what the charity is. If it is for, say, a famine or victims of a war then in a way I can see why they need to harrass people. I would love to be able to say of myself that I would come up with the idea of giving some money to those kind of charities without needing prompting, but unfortunately with all the other stuff in life interfering I rarely bother. Not having a credit card doesn’t help either. I think minor irration for me=life saving medication for someone else is quite defensible.
On the other hand, what you get here (western Ireland) quite a lot is collections for the local sports club, scouts club etc. In that case I think it is their hobby and their problem to come up with the money for it. I don’t ask people to give money to me so I can go drinking, which happens to be my hobby, either.
Also annoying are the kids packing your bags at the checkout in the supermarket for tips without asking. I have some kind of “system” packing the bags so that the washing powder doesn’t sit on top of the eggs and soft veggies and so on and prefer to do it myself. It also pretty much forces you into giving money, as it seems rude to refuse once they’ve put in the effort, even if you’re not pleased with the results.
It’s not just charities. I get harassed my people wanting to know if I’ve had an injury in the past 5 years, and am I interested in getting compensation for it? No and No again! Now leave me alone!
By the entrance to my university there are always people handing out leaflets for clubs too.
It gets really annoying.
ARRRRGH! Yes, I hate these. I will stand in a queue twice the length of all the others to avoid these.
If anyone packs my bags without asking I just dont donate anything. I’ve had it happen twice, both times it wasnt clear what the charity was, and I wasnt going to ask because they didnt ask me!
I’ve been known to rattle a tin for a good cause. I’ve found the perfect method, smile, shoulders back, 40DD’s out … my cohort was getting nowhere with all these grizzled aul’ farmers, they were throwing money at me Didn’t even want to know what I was collecting for …
You have to tip the eejit who packs your bags? I never have!
