Wow. I have never even met anyone who has had a car stolen. I’ve never heard of it happening anywhere near where we live.
My neighbor across the street got his stolen last year, and then put in the world’s most sensitive car alarm on his new vehicle. I swear I could sneeze in the house and it would set off the alarm. He had the alarm for a month or two, but I haven’t hear it since, so either he figured out how useless it was or one of the neighbors got to talking to him.
But the post quoted: cars stolen several times a week from the neighborhood?! That’s an insane amount, even by my Chicago standards. We don’t even have catalytic converters stolen so consistently often.
I had one stolen- but from my college parking lot back many decades ago.
The area has have some converters stolen from cars where they are especially easy to get at, and some windows broken to steal a purse or CDs or something.
I had a problem neighbor (now moved and/or passed away), many stories, but he hit my car & triggered the alarm at least twice that I can remember. I was able to see him driving away and was once able to save irrefutable dashcam footage because of the alarm.
For better or for worse, I didn’t confront him with the vid or accusations. I’ve got way better stories about that house, anyway. Both incidents would be characterized as parking bumps.
