I have given fruit and cookie and coffe bean baskets to clients. Not my own selection, but I’m no good at picking out gifts.
No Christmas is complete without my gift of Buckeyes (a peanut butter confection dipped in chocolate that resembles a buckeye nut) to Uncle Dave.
Not home-made, but I often give wine and cheese. Especially wine - I have a reputation of having good taste in wine.
one year I canned in the summer jelly jars of a green relish and red picante sauce because I knew I would not have much money for presents at Christmas. I gave each person a jar of each with ribbon tied around them. They were very popular and I was asked by many if they could get refills.
Homemade pesto in a nice container, with pasta and a bottle of wine.
I’ve also sometimes given mail-order specialty foods for out-of-state folks.
Always. Local treats for friends who live Elsewhere (e.g., smoked salmon, hazelnuts), exotica for friends who like to cook (e.g., spices purchased in other countries, walnut oil), and sometimes homemade treats (e.g., liqueur, fruit breads). Also local beer, wine, and spirits. I’d say that more of our non-family gifts than not are edible or potable, and a lot of the family gidts are, too.
Yeah, especially this year. Thanksgiving I find out there’s no Trader Joe’s near my parents  , so Ms. Malienation rustled up some tasty gift baskets with my man Joe’s help. We’ll see if it all makes it up there.
I can never think of what to buy for the family round-robin gift exchange (taking turns picking or stealing gifts, you know). I’m about 20 years younger than anyone else participating, so I usually end up with my own gift.
This year I’m going to try making a batch of homemade cherry soda and a batch of fudge. I’ll put them in a basket and call it a gift. No one will fight over it, but unlike my past contributions, they shouldn’t be too disappointed if they end up with it.
