Do you give your vehicles names?

I am sorry I don’t care what you called it years ago a Honda Fit does not have enough character to warrant a name.

What she said.

Mom currently drives Fiona, a 15-year-old Chrysler PT Cruiser.

She or Dad have named all their cars for at least my entire life. The first one I remember was a gold-painted Ford Escort named “Goldie”.

I do name many of my musical instruments, but my car has no name, maybe because I don’t drive often and have no particular attachment to my car.

I have old work trucks or off road vehicles but more in jest than anything sentimental.

Not always. I had a burgundy Honda Accord that somebody threw a Dino (from the Flintstones) fridge magnet on, and the name stuck.

My current car is a VW Golf named Shirley Manson (it’s black and therefore a bit goth-y, and has tartan seats).

I named my 1996 and 2002 Saturns (Baby and Rhapsody), but I’ve had the new not-Saturn car two months now and haven’t called it anything.

I spend as much time with him as with people. You probably really don’t get petting your dashboard to encourage the car up a hill either?

Like many, they get descriptive names. The 1959 Ford pickup is “The Old Ford”, the 1964 VW Baja is “The Baja”. I had a 1964 Ford uni-body pickup that was sky blue, it was “Old Blue”.

Now if the rig has a name already when I get it, the name stays. For example, way back in ancient history, my brother & I bought a 1967 Plymouth Valiant that the PO, (Previous Owner), had named Ethyl. Ethyl she remained, even after we gave it to our younger sister. Eighteen years later, when she gave it to her daughter, she was still Ethyl. I think that Ethyl died one autumn day when another teenager T-boned her. RIP Ethyl.

They all get called “You high quality piece of scrap metal”, when they give me fits. It is kind of like when you are in trouble & your mom calls you by your FULL name.

I guess, in a spirit of honesty, I should disclose that my motorcycle, a Kawasaki Concours 14, is named “Absinthe.” I never actually call it that, though. A riding group of which I am a part captions photos on their website with pseudonyms for the riders and individual proper names for the bikes. Since the bike had to have a name, I chose “Absinthe” based on the paintjob.

No…but my kids do. Our Escape is “Rev”, and my mustang is “Hot Rod.”

My last 2 cars didn’t have names. My new car is “The Bitch,” suggested by a woman friend of mine because it looks kinda angry.

Sometimes – certain cars deserve a name, and some don’t.

A dark gray 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS396: a loud, rumbly muscle car that rattled windows. His name was Bubba.
A teal green 1970 Toyota Corolla Station wagon: a weak, feeble old car. Her name was Gertrude.

My current ride is a white 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a go anywhere, do anything ride that will take us many places. I haven’t named it yet, haven’t decided, but I might name him Falkor.

We have never named our cars. We did have one crummy “K-Car” that we called a lot of names.

On the other hand when we had a stand-alone GPS we used in the cars we named her (the voice) 'Margaret". Stubborn thing as I recall.

I can easily Imagine what those names might be. Those K-Cars were krappy.

Of *course *I name my cars. At one time we had Lola the Corolla, Commander RAV, and Big Guy. Commander RAV, rest his soul, went to the big junkyard in the sky. At 10 years of age we traded Lola the Carolla in for Lulu the Subaru. And Big Guy is still going strong.

Not since 1980, but my first three cars were: a '59 Renault Dauphine named “Fifi”; a '67 Dodge Dart named “D’Artagnan”; and a '66 Plymouth Valiant named (of course) “Prince.”

The current fleet consists of:
1989 Red CRX SI : The roller skate
1995 Olds Cutlass supreme: Lucy
2002 Silver Silverado Z71: Silver
2005 Crown Vic Police interceptor: Rosco

Similarly, my first car was a 1974 Opel Manta, and the “a” had fallen off the end, so it was known as “Mant.” At one point I added another radio antenna to the other side of it to enhance the nickname. Also, it kinda looked like an ant anyway.

After it had long been put down, the movie Matinee came out, and I was delighted when I saw that the movie-within-a-movie in it was “Mant!”

I’ve named all my cars

Ruth - a 1986 Caprice Classic Landau
Jane - a 1996 Chrysler LHS
Regina - a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
Lucille - a 1992 Chrysler LeBaron sedan
Mildred - a 2002 Buick LeSabre Custom
