For me it would be kane pixels backrooms ( or “the complex” ) series, i really enjoyed the movie and currently watching available series on youtube and it would suck to see all my love towards it just be a phase.
I gain and lose interests all the time, it’s an annoying part of ADHD. I become obsessed with something for a few weeks or months or even a year, but inevitably I lose interest. It’s gotten to where I have to plan for my interest in things to end. I only really take on hobbies where the entry cost is low and it won’t take up much space in my house.
That’s why I decided on cross stitch - smaller footprint than knitting or other crafts, and supplies can sit in the closet until I get interested in it again. But the thing is, cross-stitch stuck. I’ve been doing it for 30 minutes a day most days for two years. It’s like my morning cup of coffee. I’d miss it.
I’ve always been a fiction writer and while my volume of writing ebbs and flows, I don’t even know who I’d be without it. Right now I miss it because life has been chaos and it’s hard for me to write in the middle of change.
I formally became a Zen Buddhist last year after a year of perfect attendance at a local temple, but as soon as I did the precepts ceremony, my attendance tanked. I’m trying really hard not to lose it. I at least started meditating daily again.
For me, I had to face the painful reality that music composition wasn’t going to be much or mean much anymore. In the era of AI, we’re going to have a ChatGPT-like thing that can let anyone create or compose whatever music of any feel or genre they like, on instant demand. I did still get to enjoy a good long run of composing and improv/arrangement from 2004-2026, though.
Another thing I’m sad to give up is attending sports games in person. I dearly loved attending World Cup games in person this year. I’m still single, but once I get married, then marital and parental finances will make it hard to justify plunking down the hundreds - or even over a thousand - dollars it will take to attend some high-level sports games. Only when single do you get to freely decide how your dollars are spent. I want to go to the 2030 World Cup but there’s a good chance marriage/kids will preclude it.
So do you feel like your compositions don’t have any meaning in the age of AI?
I grappled with this a bit as a writer, but I inherently love the process, so I’d be doing it regardless of whether it mattered to anyone else. As one of my writer friends put it, “I’d write if I was stranded on the moon.”
But I understand that a lot of people find the sharing part really important. I have a writers group to share my stuff with so I don’t feel so lonely.
I think I have accepted that I’m not getting published anytime soon. I do not have the bandwidth to try. Which is a bummer because I have a finished manuscript that took me ten years to write.
I am afraid of losing my interest in computer games. (Even though i am a long time collector of both consoles and computers). My interest is vaning, but my collection gets bigger…
I have so many projects in progress (WiPs) it would be a tragedy if I lost interest in crochet. As it is, I can only do about an hour per day or I get tennis elbow. Such a shame.
I’ve been playing tabletop role-playing games pretty much continually since 1982; I still enjoy playing a great deal, and I hope I never lose that.
Similarly, I became a fan of both J.R.R. Tolkien and Star Wars in 1977, and continue to be so. My interest in those has ebbed and flowed a bit over the years, but it’s never gone away, and I hope that I can continue those, too.
OTOH, I was a rabid fan of football, and the Green Bay Packers, in particular, since childhood. I’m even a Packers season ticket holder, and a shareholder. But, my passion for the sport has cooled significantly in recent years.
