Do you have a single phone/internet/tv provider? Tell us about the pros & cons.

I don’t. I don’t actually care about the cable, but I fully operate on the assumption that both Comcast & AT&T are largely staffed by evil monkeys and will demonstrate such at random moments. Thus I refuse to put all my eggs in a single basket.

Anybody else?

Not me, but my brother used to have his phone, cable TV, and internet access through Comcast. After Hurricane Wilma a few years ago, he lost all of these things for six weeks. I have my TV through Comcast, but not my internet or phone, which were only out for a few days following Hurricane Wilma. No power or TV for about ten days. Aside from hurricane related outages I have had no issues.

We have all three from Verizon FIOS. [thread=521947]Here’s the story of our one problem with FIOS so far.[/thread] If we did not have cell phones, the 24 hour outage would have been unacceptable. Our biggest problem was we could not figure out how to change the outgoing message in our FIOS voice mail. Mama Zappa figured it out - thanks to wifi at a local restaurant.

I have my house phone, cable TV and Internet with Shaw. I get a 15% discount and better options on my phone including no extra charge on all calls in North America. My phone was with Telus before. The cost were higher and they had separate bills for your house phone and mobile (different divisions). Shaw will be offering Mobile services before long and I imagine everything will be on one bill at a discount. Goodbye Telus.

We have a local company that recently put in fiber connections to every household in my town. They offer cable tv, telephone, and internet for $100 per month. We just recently switched to them because our Comcast cable costs were rising, yet we were not getting any new services. Also, the new company offeres a 10 Mb connection… which was about 4 times faster than my old ISP.

So far the service has been excellent. They cheerfully answer all my questions and I’ve not once had any down time. We had the power go out just this past weekend for 2 days and we didn’t lose our phone service at all. If I had a 2nd generator, I probably could have powered my TV and Internet connection equipment as well and still been able to browse the Net.

I refuse to do so, no matter how much money I could save. Point source failures are to be avoided.

Popped in to post this very anecdote. The plus is that we get a bundle discount - with box rental and fees, we’re paying about 120 a month for everything, which is about 25-30 less than we were paying for everything all separate. That doesn’t include the cell phones of course, which are also Verizon.

Verizon is really pushing FIOS in my neighborhood, and I’m scared to death to pull up my roots in other services and transplant to fiber.

Now, the TV and internet service I can understand. But the telephone… Are they connecting that as a VoIP service?

Word. Another issue is customer service… what happens when I refuse to capitulate on a billing problem with my phone? There goes my television and internet too!

No thanks.

Until we moved recently, we had home phone, cable TV and internet all through Charter Cable. Loved it. We saved something like $35/month on the bundle, and never had problems with Charter. Yes, I was a little nervous about going with a VOIP phone, but since we both have cellphones, it just wasn’t that big of a deal.
