Do You Have A "Spot" in Your Living Room?

That is, all thing being equal do you have a default place to sit that others know is “yours” and they don’t sit there.

Left side of the loveseat recliner, next to the table that holds all my crochet and knitting tools. My daughter’s dog seems to think it’s his spot. So does my cat. They’ll never learn…

The floor at the foot of my couch.

No matter how big the place they live in, people live in spots.

I have a couple of spots - my recliner in the living room, and the side of the bed nearest the phone.

The only one who disputes this is Leet the Wonder Dog[sup]TM[/sup], who occasionally wants to sneak up onto the bed in case of Scary Thunder, or “Time to Get Up, Grandpa!” Last night he tried to sit on my lap, in his usual subtle efforts to get at my dinner plate on the stand next to me, but 80 pounds of German Shepherd and 195 pounds of Grampa do not fit comfortably into one La-Z-Boy.

Shodan

My preferred spot is the right side (when sitting) on the couch. That way my right arm/hand is in the proper position to the end table so I can set down my beverage easily. BUT…according to the dogs, that is not my preferred spot. I should always be sitting in the middle of the couch so I can have a dog on either side of me. That way my arms/hands are in the proper position to pet both of them at the same time. I cannot have a beverage in this position. :frowning:

I have a spot, my wife has a spot, the dog has a spot. The dog is the only one that acts like Sheldon Cooper about his spot.

In the living room? Not really. My wife does, but I don’t.

The basement, OTOH, is ALL “my spot.”

In the center of the leather love seat. The cat’s place is right up against my left hip. The place of the cat we lost last year was right up against my right hip.

My husband’s place is on the nearest end of the couch.

When my brother visits, he gets my spot, I get my husband’s spot, and husband gets the recliner.

My husband and I each have recliners. All three small dogs like to be on one of our laps.

Not living room, per se, but the room we watch TV in. It’s pretty much a function of only having 2 real places to sit and their being 2 of us. Her stuff on one side table, my stuff on my side table. We never planned it, it just happened. Coincidentally, we sit in the same positions (relative to each other) as we sleep in bed: me on the right, her on the left.

Huh. I do not have “a spot”. Then again, we are a couple living in a 3 bedroom, 3 bath home with multiple outbuildings. I have a late 1800 restored dentist chair in my man-cave that I sometimes occupy and comfortable chairs in our living-room/sun-room/dining-room that I like. There is a skychair on our side porch and one on the back patio that I like. And I’ve been known to plop down on a bale of hay in the barn.

By default, because the left side of the couch has been my wife’s “spot” since we moved into the house in 1996. Thus, my spot is the right side.

I live alone. The whole living room is my ‘spot’. But I do have preferred locations within. If I want to watch TV I’ll sit in one place. If I want to read in the bay window, I’ll sit in another. If I want to do the ironing I’ll sit in a third. If…

Left side of the loveseat recliner. One of the two larger cats on the arm, one of the smaller cats on my legs, my lap being subject to “first there.” The other cat sits with the wife.

My wife and I have identical chairs, but hers is closer to the radiator.

Right side of the couch because all my stuff is right there–laptop lives on a shelf, my weed smoker and accoutrements are on a higher shelf, and there’s a good spot for my drinking cup next to my elbow. I also have a preferred Adirondack chair on the porch but I’m about half and half between that and the hammock. I live alone though so there’s very little competition.

Left side of the couch is my spot. The right side is for the cat. The comfy chair is my daughter’s spot, even though she hasn’t lived here in almost a year.
I tried switching to the right side of the couch, but it just didn’t feel right.

My wife and I like the same “spot” but its first-come and usually where we tend to guide guests to so its no big deal for us to sit anywhere.

Remember Liam Neeson in The Bounty?

My spot is my wooden rocking chair. 'Tis a comfy chair, it is, and it’s all mine.

The Big Crow just replaced his wicker rocking chair with a wooden one he bought at a yard sale last summer. It’s one of those unfinished oak ones that was popular about four decades ago. Though still sturdy, it had probably been sitting on someone’s porch for about half that long.

I told the Big Crow that he needed to sand and finish it before he was allowed use it so, naturally, it sat in the corner of our living room since we hauled it home. Then, I guess I let the statute of limitations on my order expire (Darn it!) and he hastily moved it, still unfinished, in front of the television.

Noir Kitty owns the couch, though the Big Crow will occasionally co-opt it for a nap.
