Readers, describe the spot(s) where you do most of your reading

Mine is at the west end of a love seat that is soon to be upgraded to a comfy, reclining version. My eyes are not the best, and I have to lean toward a table lamp that is not quite bright enough.

So, not at all ideal, but a change is gonna come. More comfortable seat + a brighter light is on the way.

(secondary spot is in bed, where I typically fall asleep after 2.5 pages)

I sit in our living room in a wicker chair with cushions, in front of a bow window. In bed is my second favorite location to read.

In an Adirondack chair (with a foot rest) on the patio or deck. The weather is beautiful, sunny, and warm. I have a small table next to me with my Diet Coke and bag of potato chips. My perfect day. :sun_with_face:

I hide out in a tiny windowless office at work that isn’t used so early in the morning. Sit in the swivel chair and prop my feet up on a cardboard box.

Yesterday I had some rare free time at home, so I read in a love seat next to a window. Bookmark, glasses, and coffee all fit on the windowsill. However, there was some disruption because the dogs wanted to compete for the other half of the love seat.

Until Covid, I did most of my recreational reading on airplanes. Now I don’t fly so much, and I’m reading less. When I do, it’s usually in bed.

Nowadays I probably do most of my reading on the subway on the way to/from work.

I have a reading corner in my bedroom. A recliner chair (which was a mistake, more about that below) with flat wooden arms rather than overstuffed ones, a bright floor lamp one one side, and a small side table stacked with books (even though most of what I read is on Kindle) on the other side. Just past the small table is the door (with a window) to the back deck.

The recliner was a mistake because I can’t rest my head when I’m reading, I have to crane it forward so I am looking at the book in my lap (or I could hold the book up at eye level, which is worse). The chair only supports my head if it is lying back looking upward at an angle of 30 degrees or so. That’s in the most upright position, it’s much worse if I actually recline. I used to have an overstuffed chair that was more upright, but I wanted to put my feet up. I got a footstool, but it was flat and not comfortable. What I need is that chair back plus an angled leg rest.

Mostly in bed- I read awhile to get sleepy most nights. Then some nights I wake up around 2 or 3am, can’t get back to sleep, so I read some more before I’m able to fall back asleep.

Other than that I don’t really have a favorite spot while I’m awake during the day. On days with good weather I do like to sit outside and read on the back deck with a nice beverage or two.

On a seat in public transportation. I have no time for it at home.

I have a few spots, but the most frequently used one is on the king-size bed in our bedroom. It has the best view of the street/sidewalk of anywhere in the house, so it’s my dog’s default spot for hanging out, and I snuggle with her as I read.

:bathtub: or :bed:
(For fiction, anyway.)

This is why God made pillows. Get a small, fat, squatty pillow to put behind your head and hold it up. Tuesday Morning is a good place to find them. Or Target. :+1:t4:

I sit at one end of my sofa with my feet up so kitties can come and sit on my lap at will. I lean against pillows, and I always have a heating pad behind my back, even in summer. (I turn it on and off and adjust the heat constantly.) Windows to my left look out to the street in my active and friendly neighborhood (more dog walkers than you can shake, throw, and fetch a stick at.) I keep my TV (to the right) on the YouTube channel below, which shows live webcam video from around the world–totally mesmerizing. In winter, I have a space heater in my non-working fireplace with video flames. Very cozy.

Mostly on the couch in the living room, much less frequently in bed.

I don’t know @Roderick_Femm’s chair, but I pulled a recliner out of a bedroom into the living room to place-hold until we get our new furniture. It is comfortable enough, but it is awful to watch TV because the back of the chair does not rise high enough to support a head. I’ve tried stuffing a pillow behind my head but it just falls behind the chair.

mmm

I have a book with me at all times. The most usual spots for me to read are on buses and in restaurants.

My daily commute is about three hours a day, counting both ways. I get a good deal of reading in.

95+% of my kindle/book/magazine reading takes place in either my bed, or my recliner chair in the bedroom. And of those two places, the chair is the more common spot as lying in the bed to read puts me to sleep pretty quick most times.

Do I have to come over there and fix this for you?? <ThelmaLou taps foot>

Get a small, squatty pillow or what’s commonly called a “neck roll.” It fits snugly behind your neck and doesn’t stick up over the back of the chair. Here are a bunch of different kinds.

If the back of the chair doesn’t even come up past your shoulders, that is a very weird recliner…

I just checked - the back ends about 3-4 inches above the top of my shoulders.

The neck pillows you linked to may or may not work, not sure. In any case, the recliner goes back into the bedroom next week.

It is similar to this one in style (with the back just a bit shorter):

In my bed at night.

Occasionally in the morning at the weekend.

My living room sofa when I’m at home, and on a train during my daily commute. Less often, when I’m lying in bed.
