Do you have an alibi?

I don’t need an alibi. I’d just tell the cop(s) they “don’t have any proof” in a smartass tone of voice, then turn and walk away from them. Interview over.

This always works on British Detective programs. Temporarily, at least.

This past monday, right around bedtime. The best I’d be able to come up with is: “Do that phone ping thing. The one where you find out a killer was dozens of miles away from where he claimed to be. That’ll prove, at least, that my phone was home. Or close to home, or something.”

I keep a somewhat detailed journal of almost every day, as diary habit, so I think I could come up with the alibis pretty easily. Either I was at Starbucks or some other evening hangout, or I was with family. Rarely am I at neither place.

I believe this was the plot of one of the early Columbo shows. Turned out that the culprit was employing a new invention called a “VCR” to come up with a fake alibi.

I’m probably in deep trouble. Where my phone was during that time would be easy enough (at home), but that doesn’t guarantee where I was, since it’s very easy for those two locations to differ. There’s also that collection of true crime books I have…

From 7.30 till 9.30 PM? The wife went to bed at about 9.00 PM, so I guess if she is considered a reliable witness I have 3/4 of an alibi. If push comes to shove perhaps I wrote something on this board around that time and my internet provider can vouch for the connection having being from home, but I don’t know out of the blue.
I really hope the victim was not murdered at my place, officer. My wife? Yes, I can provide an alibi for her, of course. 3/4 of an alibi, to be precise.

I was home alone. A friend called at 7:35 and we talked for 37 minutes. He could tell the cops that I didn’t mention any plans to go out. But if this was a premeditated murder, I wouldn’t tell him that anyway. So, yeah, I got nothing.

I’m pretty sure I was posting here on the dope. And watching the teevee. I bet Netflix knows what I was watching.

I was at home, and my daughter was here, but she wouldn’t be the most reliable witness (I can’t even remember if we were in the same room at that time). I will have been posting online though - would a messageboard like this know I was using my computer at home rather than the same computer somewhere else?

I was on a training zoom-like call until 7:45 or 8; about 9 I finished off my step count for the day, like I do most nights (regular pattern), as registered by the device.

The time in between? Well, hopefully the murder took place 31 mins away.

I was home, making a post here at 7:32 p.m. So I’m covered for those 2 minutes, anyway.

However, I’m sure my browsing history would reflect I was home and web-surfing all evening.

Pretty boring alibi! But it would likely be sufficient.

I was with kayaker’s gf from 8 ish to 9:30.

mmm

I was robbing a bank. I can get the mask and clothes I was wearing to compare to the cameras at the bank.
Or. I was home watching TV. There were two people and a dog with me. The dog just had surgery and can’t be left alone for a long time.
It was MASH Monday, so that is what I was watching.

I live alone and I’m usually in bed watching tv around that time.

But nobody would believe little old me could kill someone. I hope.

Weirdly, I was home with my wife.

Also the security camera will show that my car was in the driveway much of that time (every time it triggered because someone drove by, etc.)

You were chatting with me, FairyChat, about the $1,000.00 you were going to give me for my birthday.

Yes! I was texting with my neighbor. So they ought to get my location from my phone.

I was at home with my husband and cat.

Since the victim was “universally disliked”, I suppose my husband and I could have killed them together. The cat would testify against us.

Your screen name is basically a true crime show trope. You’ve got no chance, sorry. :frowning:

I was in an IRC chat room. Based on one channel’s logs alone: At 19:56, I went AFK to eat dinner, and posted that that’s what I was doing. Came back at 20:24. Posted a rather rude comment that I’m not proud of, denigrating a friend behind his back, at 20:36. At 20:53, I explained that I had a disagreement with a friend earlier which had left me in a bad mood, and I apologized to anyone I’d hurt with my behavior.

I don’t know if I was actively playing in that other channel between 19:30 and 21:30. Possibly.
