Do you have anything that automatically triggers a "favorite catch phrase" from TV or the movies?

@SuntanLotion Semi-Pro, probably.

This thread is making me realize just how often I do this.

If someone says “Hi everybody”, like say when kicking off a Zoom meeting they’re hosting, I must respond with an enthusiastic “Hi Doctor Nick!” or sometimes “Hi [person’s name]!”

I’ve mentioned before that the ending to Superman means anyone saying “I hereby serve notice” makes me picture a hype man adding that “he’s SERVIN’ NOTICE! ta YOU!”

And, yes, sometimes I find myself chiming in.

When I hear somebody do a variation (“Evening, everybody.”) I have to respond with a welcoming “NORM!”

I often use a cheery, orotund, Seinfeld-style “Hellooooo!” as I come through the door at the end of the day: Seinfeld: the voice (helloooo) - YouTube

Or, if you’re having a bad day, “serenity now!”

I’m inordinately fond of the Seinfeld line, “I could drop you like a bag of dirt.”: YARN | I could drop you like a bag of dirt. | Seinfeld (1993) - S08E04 The Little Kicks | Video clips by quotes | b740809f | 紗

Funny, but you went full Mandela on the last bit.

It’s his old man. He’s a television repairman. He’s got this ultimate set of tools.

I also thought the tools were bitchin’.

Anytime somebody goes back and corrects a word they said,

“Always, no NEVER…” from Monsters Inc.. *

I’d go with the quote from Real Genius

" Always… no, no… never… forget to check your references. "

which inevitably leads to

“I think the young people enjoy it when I “get down” verbally, don’t you?”

“Woo, and also hoo”. I can’t believe I came up with that. Kind of a sarcastic yahoo.

Or, I quote Weird Al from UHF and say “Badgers? We don’t need no stinkin’ badgers!”

A friend of mine has a doctorate in physics; first name is Nick. He leans into the whole exchange - he loves it!

Warped minds think alike:

Ha! Thanks for the correction. I haven’t seen the film in years…I probably have been misquoting other lines from it as well.

(But hey, at least I know that Kashmir isn’t on Zep 4!).

In otherwise serious discussions such as talking about Ghislaine Maxwell and Prince Andrew I have to suppress blurting out “Dats a Mann Act” in my best Buford Justice impression. The line and speech aren’t funny read flat from the page but Gleason’s delivery gets me every time.

Not Weird Al. That line was said by Trinidad Silva as Raul Hernandez.

“Now you know” always requires the response “And knowing is half the battle” from the G.I. Joe cartoons - Knowing is half the Battle - YouTube

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I should have said “quote the Weird Al movie UHF

There are so many cool replies, and I mostly quote lines from “Dumb and Dumber” or “Anchorman”, with an occasional “You’re gonna take that DEE-YUH-KUH” from the mirror scene in “Wanderlust” thrown into the mix.

I’m easily amused, I suppose.

My favourite is
“This school was here before you came, and it’ll be here before you go.”
