AC/DC, Back in Black is my standard cleaning album.
95 Country. There’s something about all those miserable people that makes me so grateful for my life, even if at the moment it involves housework. “Well,” I tell myself, “I may have to scrub pots, but at least I don’t have a broken-down pickup truck and a messy yodeling D-I-V-O-R-C-E…”
YAY! Er, ahem. What I mean to say is, “me, too”.
It depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s** the Clash**. Sometimes it’s Nik Kershaw. Sometimes it’s **Nik Kershaw ** with **Les Rhythmes Digitales ** singing “Sometimes”. Heh.
Lately it’s been Scissor Sisters. I can do a lot to Filthy/Gorgeous.
I also like Pig. *A Touch of Upheaval * makes vacuuming a breeze.
No. When I’m vacuuming I wouldn’t be able to hear it.
The Black Watch…War Pipe and Plaid. Combined bands of the Canadian and Scottish Black Watch Regiments. You’ll have enough energy to clean your house and mine, and still be marchin’ down the street…
Lately I’ve been popping in Muse, Black Holes and Revelations on my cleaning day. Once “Map of the Problematique” comes on (Track 4), I transform into an unstoppable cleaning machine.
For some odd reason, when I’m in a cleaning mood I usually put in the movie The Outlaw Josie Wales, and use that for background noise.
Electronic dance music. Lately, it’s been an imported DVD of French house music called Vanity 9; each song is accompanied by a scantily-clad go-go dancer, so as I clean, I’ll walk by the TV and get a little lift in my… spirits. Otherwise, long dance mixes-- Sandra Collins’ Cream album, Christopher Lawrence, whomever. Peppy, and I can dance around as I clean, and not the kind of music that makes me want to sit down and concentrate on the music.
Standard cleaning would probably be Collective Soul. Any specialized cleaning (oven, refrigerator, etc. - big project kinda stuff) would be Ozzy or Kid Rock.
You must do a lot of spit shines.
I know it’s horrible bubblegum synthesizer crap, but New Order does it for me everytime. It’s like watered-down retro-techno, with insipid and repetitive lyrics. My brain can tune it out and focus on the task at hand, but the beat is there to keep me moving.
I just use my usual playlist, but I especially like energetic, bouncy music – Mika and Scissor Sisters are especially good, as are much of New Order and Pet Shop Boys, etc.
AC/DC - Back in Black
Phil Collins…especially Invisible Touch and Sussudio…but I generally just throw on the Great hits, crank up the volume and clean like crazy. It’s the only thing that works…
No specific music, but I do have two room-cleaning movies: Mallrats and Chicken Run.
“Rappin’ Duke” is very good for vacuuming.
I almost always listen to screaming females when I clean: L7, Diamanda Galas, Skunk Anansie.
I actually have a playlist on my iTunes titled ‘go clean your room!’ It’s heavy on Bikini Kill, Bloc Party, Bad Religion, the Raincoats and a bunch of other punk, pop-punk & dance-punk. For years, Bikini Kill’s CD Version of the First Two Records was my default house-cleaning music. I’ve also been partial to comps of various punk covers of 80s tunes.
Most things loud will do, but usually I turn to:
Tori Amos
Lacuna Coil
Meatloaf
The Empire Records Soundtrack
or just about anything from a huge catalogue of 80s/90s power ballads - With T’Pau singing China In Your Hand, I can get just about anything done
Any music turned up can do in a pinch, but my favorites are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, They Might Be Giants or the Ramones.
