I’m not much of a joiner either. I don’t attend the company picnic or do activities that take place outside of normal work hours. I didn’t join too many activities in high school, either. My college was simply the place I got my bachelors degree and I have zero team spirit about anything. The only work ethic I have is that I’ll do the work I’m assigned and maybe a little more. I do believe in not holding other people back though, so if I know someone is depending on me for something, I’ll go out of my way to try to get it to them on time.
flyboy, don’t get me wrong: I like my job, and consider myself a professional in the field, but I don’t care for the life. I usually only get stirred into defending the military when there are heavy anti-military or anti-soldier sentiments going on, and I feel that it is certainly a worthwhile, honorable profession.
It’s just not for me, so I feel little “team spirit.”
Lamar Mundane, actually, while I can speak only for myself, I participated in many of the school play productions, yearbook, and I practically ran the newspaper.
It was more something fun to do than to support the corrupt-ass school administration or have a sense of belonging with all the rich kids who detested me.
“I’ve got spirit, yes I do!
I’ve got spirit,
How 'bout you?”
OK. I lie. I am NOT a team player.
Yes I was: Marching band, orchestra, band, forensics, drama, swim team, yearbook, pep squad.
But I was always the “loner”. Didn’t foster friendships. Didn’t really care.
Now, my workplace is trying to move into this “TEAM! RAH RAH!” crap and it is annoying to no end. I come in, do my job, assist as needed, volunteer for the required amount of committees and then I go home. I have enough to do already, please leave me out of your “Team Building” stuff, m’kay?
With regards to sports teams- I do have spirit to an extent. You will never see me decked out in purple/gold face paint and a dorky horned helmet with the wannabe braids. But go to games? Turn out for autograph sessions? Heck yeah.
