Just wondering: Did school spirit exist in your high school? My high school rivals that of the “Footloose” idea - so school spirit was virtually a non-entity. Maybe this is the extreme case. How was your Class of 19xx? (or 200x?)

My School had tons of school spirit. They had so much, I am sure they could have spared some for your class. We were always having rallies and theme days and crap like that. We even had a rally where they would put a dummy in a coffin and parade it around the school as a symbol of how they would saughter our rivals in the “Big Game.” They called it the Death March. It’s kind of ironic though, becuase our football team sucked big time. They probably won two games a season.
My school had it, but I didn’t. Part of that early 90’s teen angst.
We wanted to win all the sports championships, but we weren’t exactly slitting our wrists if we didn’t. It was fun to get out of a few classes for a pep rally, I guess.
Class of 1990.
My Class O’ '84 had a bunch, we competed in the State Tourney in soccer and basketball fairly regularly, had pep rallies that folks enjoyed, big student cheering sections at sports events, and maybe an 85%-90% showing at dances. Spirit Week every year, yadda, yadda.
All our sports teams sucked. Our town sucks. Our pep rallies were more of a contest to see who could boo the loudest.
~~My class of 1990 had a lot of spirit… Our school was sort
of small so we stuck together much…
This is true for anybody who ever went to _HS…
(wow, Shera started off a post without “Ummmm”)
I had very little school spirit, even though I was a cheerleader.
The school was very big on pep rallies and theme days and the like, but I couldn’t be bothered unless I had to suit up for them. When I played sports I just played for fun, and wasn’t particularly competitive. This is apparently a bad thing if you’re on the varsity team.
Class of 1988. Go Lasers!
My senior year our class sold a total of 2 tickets to any dance other than the prom. Time after time, they’d plan a dance and nobody would buy a ticket, so they’d cancel it.
Our football team was 0-9. Our baseball team, however, won the city championship. Nobody knew about it, though, because there was no school spirit. Hey, everyone was really busy hanging out in their garages, getting high.
Darn it! I knew I forgot something!

Class of '71 here.
As you can imagine, going to school in the late 60’s and early 70’s was kind of a blur. (Aw, Ripple? I had that for lunch yesterday. Got any weed?)
Good ol’ Rosey Tech (Roosevelt High) did have some great football and hockey teams, though. All those colorful jerseys swirling around, the lights, the banners…groovy!
School spirit? No, not really. There’s a few maniacs, mostly freshmen and sophomores, with enough spirit to fill up multiple high schools. My class (2003) and the seniors just don’t care. Our sports teams usually suck and all of the activities I’m involved in don’t even register on the school population brainwave.
I’m proud of my groups and friends’ groups, but that doesn’t translate to general school spirit. I’m in band, but I don’t go for all of the “WOW, I LOVE my school” junk. I don’t love my school. I want to be several hundred miles away from it, really.

My HS had plenty of spirit. We had a 4200+ student body, good sports teams, and a championship marching band. The games, dances, proms, rallies, student plays, and concerts, were always well attended.
On the other hand, we also had race riots that closed the school for days.
There is school spirit, but only on one day a year, known as Oktoberfest. Every class dresses up in a particular color and we compete in events (basketball, tug of war, etc). It actually is quite fun and EVERYONE gets into it, no one ever is left out or refuses to dress up in their color. Even myself, who has no spirit or friends for that matter. It’s really hard not to get into it. Even if you don’t compete there is still a cheering type section for everyone’s class.
Well, I’m still in high school, and my school has school spirit. I don’t have any school spirit after the first 3 seconds of a pep rally.
Class of 2000 here, and my school had plenty of spirit. There was a theme every day during homecoming week, and a pep rally on Friday, complete with a parade of floats that each class made.
[aside] In our senior year, we played the Maryvale Flyers. Someone in my class got creative and wrote “beat the M[sub]aryvale[/sub] F[sub]ly[/sub]ERs” on our senior float. It was hugely popular with the students, but we were disqualified from the float judging by the teachers. It was worth it! [/aside]
We also have a state champion field band, but only the band freaks seem to really care about that. I was never in a sport, but all the “brainy” things that I participated in were also full of spirit, even though as a relatively small, rural school we usually lost to larger, suburban schools.
Class of '92 here - not much school spirit, apart from the jocks and those who wanted to be - maybe 20% of the school. The rest of the studets didn’t give a s**t. I belonged to the don’t care group. Never learned the words to the fight song, sports bored me, so no point in it.
I WAS on academic bowl all 4 year though, so maybe I was more a nerd than I realized!
WE GOT SPIRIT YES WE DO, WE GOT SPIRIT HOW 'BOUT YOU!!!

WE’VE GOT SPIRIT YES WE DO, WE’VE GOT SPIRIT HOW 'BOUT YOU!!!
Class of 2001. Our sports teams sucked. We had a wide reputation for second-rate academics. We had three cheerleaders. We’d go to home games and boo our own side.
