When I think of different ethnic groups - like, in this thread - certain facial types immediately spring to mind.
Irish - I think of Kevin Bacon - that thin, pointed nose, the narrow jawline and chin, piercing eyes, and thick sandy hair that sticks out in every direction.
Greek - I think of thick eyebrows, thick dark hair, a “fleshy” face with heavy cheekbones and a big, manly nose - something like Mike Dukakis.
Ukrainian - I always imagine a guy who looks like the guy in the yellow shirt in this picture. The men all seem to have these perpetually boyish faces, with very smooth and pointed noses, and a very “averaged” and symmetrical face. A perfect example would be their own president, (before his face was disfigured, anyway.)
German - sorry for using a Nazi as my example, but the quintessential German look, to me, is this guy - Hans Rudel, a Nazi pilot. Big nose, strong jaw with cleft chin, and a heavy brow. Another example - Ernst Kaltenbrunner. Again, sorry to just use Nazis as examples here. There might have been some ugly ones like Himmler and Goebbels, but a lot of their military officers really did look like the ideal “Aryan.”
Jewish - I always imagine two types - the Jeff Goldblum look, with a big nose, small but strong chin, prominent cheekbones, and thick five-o-clock shadow, and then the Adam Brody /Joshua Bell type, with fine and delicate facial features and fair skin that never seems to age. For the “Jewish Girl” look, I think Sarah Silverman all the way, or the chick who played Meadow Soprano.
“WASP” - I always picture William Hurt or James Cromwell - strong jaw, fair hair, and an “aristocratic” look.
Swedish/Norwegian/Finnish/etc - I think all of the men either look like Mika Kallio (fair hair, small nose, boyish face, and slender build) or else they look like those gigantic Viking guys that you see on the “world’s strongest man” competitions. The women all look like the St. Pauli Girl.
I realize that in every one of these ethnic groups, you will find people who look exactly like the people in all the other pictures, so there really are no hard and fast rules here, and appearances vary wildly among all European bloodlines. However, these are my images that just immediately pop into my head when someone mentions one of these groups.
Anyone else feel the same way? Does anyone else immediately picture a certain “look?”
