Wondering if other people do this too. Sometimes I will repeat only a segment of a song I really like for hours on end. I know my sister did it too , bc we were all forced to listen to the same songs on repeat, just wondering how widespread it is.
I listen to the same songs over and over again on my ipod.
Sometimes I’ll listen to a song multiple times a day until I get tired of it, but one segment of it nonstop for HOURS? No. That sounds pretty crazy, or else you guys must know some pretty awesome songs.
Yes, I will listen to the same song, or even a portion of a song, ad infinitum.
I also listen to whole albums over and over again, sometimes nearly exclusively, for months.
Yep. 524 plays on the laptop, who knows how many in the car + ipod for gym. Why yes, I do live and commute alone.
I once had to endure a 3-hour car ride where the driver played Ray Stevens “The Streak” over and over. He had a cassette tape devoted to just that song. I almost had to kill the guy.
However I have a playlist on my MP3 player “All Along The Watchtower” covers by over 20 different groups. Hendrix and Dave Mason’s are the best while U2s is horrible. Of course Bob Dylan’s original isn’t too shabby either!
I’ll loop a track over and over, but only do so when I’m the only one here (and at volume that won’t be audible to neighbors) or if using earphones. No need to drive anyone else crazy.
Oh, yeah , I only do it alone or with headphones , I wouldn’t subject others to that. And for the record I mean repeating the same song back to back, or very nearly so , not merely playing it often.
sometimes it just gets better and better and can be like a religious experience or being on drugs. Or at least what I imagine those things might be like. Either way , very moving.
You should imagine better drugs.
I listened to Generationals’ “Sale City” on a loop for half an hour last night, so…yeah.
How do you listen to part of a song repeatedly, though? Is there a program or are you resetting the time every repetition?
I think it’s a sign of mental illness.
Eh I dont know, apparently not every one is moved by music. I thought it was universal until I met people who didn’t care for ANY music and claimed none had any effect on them.
This was after I said that certain songs, especially cheesy, sappy, feel good songs (“time of your life” by green day is the first example I can think of) make me feel “dirty and ashamed”. At least thats the best way I can think to describe it . Do others get this feeling from certain songs too ? I know some do because I’ve met them .
“Birdhouse In Your Soul” by They Might Be Giants, and “More Than This” by Roxy Music are two songs that I could put each of on a near-infinite loop by itself.
Yes. Some music really reflects difficult emotions you are going through, so I have done that but at most for an hour or two.
I wouldn’t ever do it around other people, that would be really annoying.
The mention of TMBG jogged my mind because my second most played song is Ana Ng with 200+ plays, many of them over and over again dozens of times.
My number 1 though is Five Years Time by Noah and the Whale, which is at 400+ plays, also dozens at a time. It proves that more cowbell is good
I do and thought I was weird fro enjoying it.
Moving to Cafe Society.
Sometimes I will listen to the same song over and over again. Sometimes it’s because I’ve just discovered a song or artist. Sometimes it’s because I need to internalize the message. After my father died, I had to listen to “Hurt” (the Johnny Cash cover) and “Like a Rock” quite a lot, until I had heard the messages that I needed to hear.
No. I never want to hear the same song more than once at a time.
No.
I also don’t watch a movie again too soon afterwards, it has to be months later at least.
Though I’m not much of a fan of music, really.
