Do You Know Lemonye Snicket, Author?

I don’t know if I spelled it right. But, my nephew just got one of his books. The title was something odd - like “Unhappy Stories You Won’t Like”. Does anyone know about this book (if you know to which book I refer). Is it worth reading? I am esp. curious to know if the style is done with a touch of sarcasm, perhaps?

Thanks, Jinx

No, he’s completely serious. Please stay away from these books. They’re just way too depressing. Try something like “The Pony Party.” Everybody loves a pony party.

The real Lemony Snicket (and I’ll use spoiler tags so as not to give away the secret to any little chirren logging in)

Daniel Handler (1970-), a native and resident of San Francisco, CA. He is married, a graduate of Wesleyan U., and the author of The Basic Eight and Watch Your Mouth! under his own name.

The series is called “A Series of Unfortunate Incidents” and it’s about some kids to whom nothing good ever happens.

There are no happy endings at all. The author is quite clear on this from the start.

Its a bit of a send-up of a particular type of children’s books (though still intended for children). The author has an amusing way with words.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events
Soon to be a movie starring Jim Carrey. Really.

Here is the web site.

And don’t miss Edward Gorey which has links to several similar collections.

I LOVE The Pony Party!

Now, THAT’s unfortunate.

Lemony Snicket’s books are great, but horribly depressing. His disclaimers are NOT JOKING AROUND. Everyone loves Pony Parties, right?
