Vague or confusing wording I know, but-
There used to be a series of books that had color photographs of famous ancient and medieval ruins. Each picture had a piece of cellophane you could place over the photo that would show what the place looked like in its prime: usually most of the overlay was painted over, but there’d be blank places so that bits and pieces of what remained would come through. It’s hard to describe, but the concept was interesting.
Does anybody know if there are any other books or websites that are like this? It doesn’t have to have cellophane, just side by side pics of what, say, the Colloseum or Middleham Castle look like today versus what they’d have looked like at the times of Augustus and Richard III respectively? I’ve tried googling one up but if it’s out there I’m not using the right words. (If it doesn’t exist twould be a great project for somebody who loves both history and painting or even history and Photoshop.)
