Do you know of Bob and Doug McKenzie?

Poll to follow.

I was chatting with a fellow doper and was surprised she didn’t know of them.

That’s fine, of course. I am unfamiliar with many cultural references and more so as I age!

Ta!

Yes, but I’m old. Haven’t thought about them in a long time.

Is it true that if you find a mouse in a bottle of beer, the brewery has to give you a free case?

Strange Brew is one of the few comedies that had me laughing out loud through the whole picture.

Showed my kids Strange Brew last year. Seems a rite of passage. Plus, what’s better than cheesy Canadian effects, eh?

Rick Moranis of course quit acting almost entirely to look after his kids after his wife died. I’m not sure what Dave Thomas is up to these days and don’t care enough to Google it.

Hey, remember the song? With Geddy Lee? Take off…to the Great White North…take off…it’s a beauty way to go…

Of course I know them. They wrote the Canadian national anthem.

Oh, Great White North (aka Canadian Corner) was one of my favorite shows, eh?

A two-four, yes. You can also make your buddy pee by sticking his finger into a bottle of beer while he’s taking a nap.

Don’t particularly like them, but yes, I know of Bob and Doug.

Fiiive golden toques!

My brother and I used to say that drownin’ in beer was like heaven, eh? Now he’s not here, and I’ve got two soakers… this isn’t heaven. This sucks!

That’s one of my “must listen” songs every Christmas. It’s like listening to Alice’s Restaurant on Thanksgiving.

There was a cartoon of the Great White North on Canadian TV about a decade ago. Dave Thomas performed the voice of Doug, but Dave Coulier took over from Rick Moranis as the voice of Bob.

And a beer!

In a tree.

When I get a chance later, I’ll look for the scene where Max von Sydow beats up an entire hockey team.

Well, in honour of Rush’s announced retirement, I must offer up this gem with Geddy Lee, along with Bob and Doug:

Koooooo loo-koo-koo-koo-koo koo-koo

It was always the must see skit on SCTV, the way Wayne’s World became on SNL.

One of my favorite 80s comedies. “It took you two minutes what would have taken us two hours. If you ever want a job, you come see me.” And, it’s also loosely based on Hamlet (Elsinore Brewery, eh?)

I watched Bob and Doug on SCTV, too. I had their album on vinyl (and I now have it on CD). But, I, too, am old.

I mainly know of them from Strange Brew. I’ll dissent somewhat from the popular opinion and say that SB starts golden for the first third and then trails off although it does have its moments throughout.
