I’m 39. I knew who she is, and I was surprised when no one on Jeopardy knew her.
FYI, Nancy was my favorite comic strip until I was about 8.

I knew (well, suspected) who it was going to be even before looking at the picture, from recognizing Ernie Bushmiller’s name.
I do remember seeing the strip in the newspaper when I was a kid (I’m 46 now), but it was past its prime and I was never very impressed by it.
The strip started as Fritzi Fritz, who was a flapper. And then she wound up having her niece Nancy saddled on her, and it went downhill from there.
Well, maybe people would know Krazy Kat, but certainly not any others.
I recognised her but suspect it is through that strip being lampooned in some latter day US cartoon strip like Bloom County.
I’m 34, and know who that is. I can’t remember though, if I ever have read any actual strips, or if I just know it from MAD Magazine versions (I still have all my dad’s MAD books from when he was a kid).
I’m 39 and recognized it right away. I was wondering if this was a trick question.
Yeah I know. It was in the comics for ages. Why? It’s one of life’s mysteries.
I’m 41. For me it was, “Oh! Oh! I should know this! Uh…tip of my tongue… Not Sluggo, but the other one! Damn!”
I couldn’t come up with her name.
She went downhill rapidly once she hooked up with Sid.
Little Iodine?
Priscilla in Priscilla’s Pop.
No, that would be Fy Cs.
WTF is Fy Cs? I probably should know, but I’m drawing a blank.
I’m guessing Family Circus. Not a reader/fan. Just can’t think of another that fits the clue.
When I was in high school (c. 1970 - 1974), a poetry anthology in one of my English classes had a poem called “Nancy.” The eponymous character was portrayed as a misbehaving little brat, and there were.dark hints about how her aunt Fritzi Ritz made her living.
Wish I could find that poem and re-read it.
nm.
Ninja’d.
:smack:
I knew who it was before looking because I recognized the artist’s name. For reference, I’m 45 and I do remember the comic.
I am 45. I remember the comic, but I also remember getting Nancy and Sluggo paper dolls as a kid. It seems to me that the hospital gift shop had very few amusements for kids. But they had paper dolls, and only a few different varieties. It seemed that every trip to the hospital, either as a visitor, or as an emergency room patient, ended up with me getting a book of paper dolls, or one of those cardboard farm sets to assemble. When I was six I had my tonsils out and I had several sets of all those books when I came home. (I think they kept me in about 4 days!) Nancy and Sluggo were disproportionately huge compared to the other dolls.
