I didn’t notice the link in the clue at first, and spent several seconds mulling it over (“Bushmiller! Bushmiller! I know this one!”) while imagining the lights on my podium winking out before finally getting “Nancy”. I was surprised that so many people could get it here based on just the cartoonist’s name! Then I noticed the link to the picture and thought, “Who doesn’t know Nancy?!”
Hey! We’re trying to play Jeopardy here! Wheel of Fortune’s in the other studio.
I knew it and am in my mid-50s. The strip ran in the local paper when I was growing up in West Texas.
I have no idea who that is
I’m 24
Early 50s and I figured it had to be either Nancy or Sluggo before clicking the link to see which one it was
I’m in my early 30s, recognized her as belonging with the bald dude with his flying hat, but there’s no way I would ever have known either of the names.
LOL
And even my teenage daughter recognized Nancy from the newspaper comics.
You mean Nancy no longer runs anywhere?
I’m 53, knew her but not the name Bushmiller. The comics when I grew up carried it.
It seemed that overall, none of the three got many of what we considered the “easy” questions. There were a whole bunch that should have been as easy as Nancy.
I know, there are degrees of “easy”. If I were ever on, I’d sure hope I never got categories like “21st century pop songs from lyrics”, “the Kardashians”, “Reality TV”, or “anagrams”. I’d look just as much like I didn’t belong there as these three seemed to me.
I recognized her appearance, but guessed that her name was “Annie” for some reason.
I’m 34, and i have a vague feeling that I’ve seen the character somewhere, but had no idea where or what her name was.
I recognized her, but like others have said, I never got the humor and never understood why it was such a long-running comic strip. I thought they were supposed to be funny.
I recognize Nancy and Sluggo, but then I’m 53. I’m sure most of the (very) bright teenagers I know would have no idea who she is.
Then again, I couldn’t tell you anything about ***Percy Jackson ***or The Hunger Games.
Preach it! I think I began losing touch with “pop culture” when LOTR was the thing.
I recognized her. I used to cut Nancy comics out of the paper when I was a kid and save them. Not because I thought they were good, but because something about their inherent badness appealed to me on some level. For good stuff, I cut out Peanuts.
According to Wikipedia, it still runs in about 80 newspapers (and of course, you can read it online). It’s a far cry from the 800 it ran in at its peak.
Back before I knew what “the hots” even were I had the hots for a character on Kerry Drake’s strip named Champagne. I even started a thread or two in my early days here trying to find anybody else who even knew who she was. A few replies, but nothing more than that and I have yet to find any online evidence of her existence.
I really liked Rooks, though, the contestant with the poofy hair. It’s a shame she didn’t repeat as champion.
I know the character but not who drew it or much else. It’s one of those comics you learn to skip over.
Now that comic gives you your dimes worth.
Oh, yeah. Looks like that lady that hung around the laundromat gossiping and bumming smokes.
