Do you know what this song may be?

On one of my mail lists, we’ve been trying to figure out what language the song in the following link is. It links directly to the song:

Since this board is much bigger and more international, I thought some of you may help. We know it’s not any of the germanic, romance, or semitic (most likely) languages. Persian was thought about, and so were other random languages as WAGs. I’m hoping some of you may know.

Strange. It sonds more like a record being played backward. Or Portuguese.

Same thing, really.

Since this is about “the Arts” let’s move it to Cafe Society.

My guess is Finnish. I don’t speak Finnish, but the few times I’ve heard it, it’s sounded like Hungarian to me with a completely foreign vocabulary. This kinda fits the bill. The rhythm of the language sounds Finno-Ugric, but it’s not Hungarian.
Just a WAG.

I like it. I’d like to know what the group and song is too.

Sounds kinda Gaelic to me… the words remind me a bit of Mary Jane Lamond.

This is where we need that sound similarity search engine.

[sub]There’s this song I’ve been trying to find since 1978 that I can recall the tune to but have no idea of the words or artist…[/sub]

Awww Psy, I know how much you love Portuguese too!

Yeah, I’d guess scandinavian of some kind.

Catchy, too.

Well, it may be “Rio” by Duran Duran.

But probably not.

I<ve been listening to it a lot, and there seems to be more than one language in it.

I just posted a link to this thread and to the song in my livejournal. Maybe someone in Esperantoland will recognise it…

Well, I don’t have a clue about what language that is. It sounds like it could be Spanish or Portuguese, but I’m not fluent enough in either to tell.

Two things I did notice.

The bass lines sound like something by Collective Soul…late 90s or so. Not sure exactly what though without breaking out the CDs.

When you hit the little I for Info in WinAmp, it says Avril Lavigne, Album: Let Go, track 12, which I previewed on Amazon and it’s not the same song.

The beginning of it sounds very familiar but I can’t place it. I"m wondering if it’s a foreign-language cover to some popular song normally sung in English.

It’s in Farsi.

Thanks be to Krisfer the Cat, who found a thread about it on the Zompist boards. The song is by the group O-HUM, from their album Nahal E-Heyrat.

Yay!
