Cytomegalovirus. Akin to herpes, I think.

My son is O neg, CMV neg, with easy to hit veins. The Red Cross calls him as soon as he’s re-qualified to give. CMV neg blood is the only kind that can be given to premies.

It appears to be red. I suppose the lack of pointy ears should have been the first clue.

Didn’t learn it until I was in my mid-20s and went to donate blood, though.
Nope. Due to a combination of overseas travel and a tendency to low iron, I’ve never really been a suitable donor and there’s not been another reason to find it out.
